The Manager, 2nd Shift Operations is responsible for leading all second shift production activities, including assembly, crating, material handling, and sheet metal operations. This role is accountable for meeting daily production goals related to safety, quality, schedule, and cost.
This position ensures labor, materials, and processes are properly aligned to support efficient, uninterrupted production. The Manager, 2nd Shift Operations is expected to address issues in real time, drive performance, and maintain clear communication with 1st shift and plant leadership to ensure continuity across shifts. This role also plays a key part in developing supervisors, enforcing standards, and driving accountability across the production floor.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Coordinate daily with cross-functional plant leadership to understand production priorities and support overall operational goals
Provide leadership and direction to Assembly, Crating, Material Handling, Sheet Metal, and Quality teams
Ensure proper documentation and communication of off-shift issues requiring follow-up from Production, Engineering, Quality, Safety, and HR
Maintain compliance with OSHA, EEOC regulations, company policies, and industry best practices
Develop and manage staffing plans to meet production demands and optimize efficiency
Ensure material availability and inventory readiness to support uninterrupted production
Own and drive performance outcomes related to cost, quality, and schedule, taking corrective action as needed
Partner cross-functionally with Production, Quality, Logistics, and other departments to ensure alignment with manufacturing goals
Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to understand upcoming product designs and complexity and ensure tooling, equipment, and processes are production-ready
Monitor workflows, identify inefficiencies, and implement process improvements
Analyze production data and performance metrics to support continuous improvement initiatives
Develop and maintain systems, procedures, and reporting tools (e.g., Epicor, ADP)
Lead and develop Supervisors and production teams through clear expectations, performance management, and coaching
Resolve operational issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions
Maintain technical and professional knowledge through ongoing training and industry benchmarking
Support broader organizational initiatives as needed
Skills and Abilities:
Experience in glass, window, curtainwall, or architectural products preferred
Working knowledge of industry-standard tools and equipment
Strong computer proficiency; experience with Epicor and ADP preferred
Ability to lead teams and manage aggressive production schedules
Willingness to work on the production floor, including occasional nights and weekends
