Summary The Senior Manager of Quality is responsible for leading Malibu’s overall product quality strategy across production and supply chain functions. This role oversees both the Quality Control and Supplier Quality teams to ensure that all products meet or exceed Malibu’s standards for performance, safety, and customer satisfaction. The Senior Manager of Quality drives cross-functional alignment on defect reduction, supplier quality improvements, and process control, ensuring sustainable quality performance from suppliers through final boat delivery.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee all Quality Control and Supplier Quality functions across Malibu operations to ensure product, process, and supplier conformance to company standards.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Quality Engineers, Technicians, and Inspectors across both Supplier Quality and Quality Control teams to build technical depth and leadership capability.
  • Drive sustainable quality improvements that enhance internal and external metrics such as Defects Per Unit (DPU), supplier performance, and customer satisfaction (CSI). Drive insights that create targeted actions for corrective actions, continuous improvement, training, or other means necessary to drive performance attainment or improvement.
  • Responsible for budgeting and reporting on areas of the P&L that relate to Quality to ensure appropriate financial planning, reporting, and budget attainment.
  • Develop and maintain quality systems, processes, and standards that promote long-term operational excellence and provide clear, consistent methods for staff to follow.
  • Oversee supplier performance management, including corrective actions, containment, recovery, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee the tracking and communication of quality performance indicators such as supplier metrics, PPAP results, FPY, DPU, COPQ, and warranty data to plant and executive leadership to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and collaboration with Operations, Engineering, Customer Service, and Supply Chain to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Partner with engineering, purchasing, and our vendors to set quality standards or resolve incoming quality issues.
  • Support new product development by ensuring production readiness and supplier quality at launch.
  • Direct daily quality meetings led by Quality Supervisor to ensure key issues, metrics, and action items are communicated and resolved promptly.
  • Lead monthly quality meetings with senior leadership, presenting performance metrics, improvement plans, and corrective actions.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Represent the Quality organization in cross-functional and executive-level meetings, ensuring alignment of quality objectives with business goals.
  • Lead major quality investigations and cross-functional corrective actions for significant internal or external issues.
  • Provide robust, data-driven insights from quality data that support product development and engineering efforts to ensure that there is a continual feedback loop that translates to optimized product development execution and subsequent product life cycle.
  • Support compliance to applicable marine industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain a strong leadership presence within operations, ensuring visibility, responsiveness, and effective decision-making.
  • Remain current with industry standards and regulations;
  • Maintain a strong leadership presence on the floor for workers to stay productive and complete daily demands.
  • Drive alignment with corporate and brand quality objectives as part of Malibu Boats’ enterprise Quality Taskforce.
  • Foster a proactive culture where associates feel ownership of quality at every step of production.
  • Champion PACE Core Values (People, Accountability & Integrity, Customer & Innovation, Excellence & Execution) within daily operations.  – (we need to start incorporating this one into our JDs)
  • Utilize data analysis tools (Pareto, SPC, FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa) to identify trends, root causes, and systemic improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with Operations and Engineering to implement Lean, 5S, and Six Sigma methodologies for waste reduction and process optimization.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:  

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college/university and a minimum of 7 years of progressing leadership experience in Quality and Manufacturing.
  • Experience leading multi-site or multi-discipline quality teams, including Supplier Quality and Quality Control functions.
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills across Engineering, Operations, Customer Service, and Supply Chain.
  • Familiar with boat systems: DC electrical, water/pluming, propulsion;
  • Proven experience in supplier management, problem-solving methodologies, and quality systems
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making abilities with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience developing and implementing procedures, standards, and improvement strategies.
  • Experience writing procedures and standards.

 

Language Skills:  Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

 

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

 

Other Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of supervisory or leadership experience in quality
  • Experience with quality system development and auditing
  • Proficiency in ABYC, NMMA, USCG, and CE standards that apply to boat construction preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and business software systems;
  • Demonstrate a passion and a responsibility for the consumer;
  • Willingness to travel when required;
  • Experience with quality inspection methods;
  • Ability to present information to a large group and interface across all departments;
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills
