JOB DESCRIPTION:

Senior Welder – Day Shift

Join our team as a Maintenance Welder/Pipefitter, where you will play a critical role in maintaining, repairing, and installing equipment and facility infrastructure to support safe and efficient operations. This position requires a skilled trades professional with strong welding, fabrication, troubleshooting, and pipefitting experience who can work independently from blueprints and technical drawings.

What You’ll Work On

  • Perform welding, fabrication, installation, and repair of process equipment, piping systems, and facility structures.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications to plan and complete work assignments.

  • Select appropriate welding methods and materials based on job requirements.

  • Maintain and repair equipment including pipelines, pumps, forklifts, tractors, railings, tanks, and other plant assets to minimize downtime and ensure safe operation.

  • Cut, fit, grind, and prepare metal components for welding and installation.

  • Perform pipe purging using inert gases such as argon and carbon dioxide to ensure weld integrity and prevent contamination.

  • Conduct TIG, MIG, SMAW (stick), gas cutting, soldering, and aluminum welding operations.

  • Troubleshoot equipment and system issues, identify root causes, and implement effective repairs.

  • Install and modify piping systems, valves, and related mechanical components.

  • Complete maintenance projects and equipment installations efficiently while meeting quality and safety standards.

  • Coordinate maintenance activities with Production and Operations teams to minimize disruptions and support continuous plant performance.

  • Adhere to all safety, environmental, and engineering standards and procedures.

  • Participate in training and certification programs, including welding certifications and specialized procedures such as passivation and pickle paste applications.

You’ll be accountable for meeting our compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Proven experience in industrial welding, fabrication, pipefitting, and mechanical maintenance.

  • Ability to read and work from blueprints, technical drawings, and engineering standards.

  • Proficiency with TIG, MIG, SMAW, gas cutting equipment, and related welding tools.

  • Strong working knowledge of piping systems, valves, and mechanical equipment.

  • Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and gauges.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

  • Solid mathematical skills, including shop math, fractions, and angle calculations.

  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain required welding certifications, including ASME certifications as applicable.

  • Must have at least 5 years industrial or commercial experience in a related field, an apprenticeship in welding/pipefitting, or military training in a related field. Good communication skills (oral and written), and some computer knowledge to work with a computer management system are needed.

Position Details

  • Shift: 12-hour Day Shift (6:00 AM– 6:00 PM)

  • Schedule: Enjoy every other weekend off with a consistent 4-week rotation:

Sample Rotation:

  • Week 1: Wed & Thurs (12 hrs)

  • Week 2: Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat, Sun (12 hrs)

  • Week 3: Same as Week 1

  • Week 4: Same as Week 2

The base pay for this position is

$20.85 – $41.75/hour
