Position Summary

   

The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment and systems within our optical lab. This includes routine and preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, keeping accurate records, forecasting future needs, and ensuring that all machinery operates efficiently and safely to ensure machine reliability and minimize unexpected downtime. This employee should have a general working knowledge of workflow throughout the lab. This position requires various skills and versatility for a wide range of tasks including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, parts & inventory control, and some logistics. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.  This is an important role in a rapidly growing company that requires an experienced individual that is familiar with eyeglass manufacturing equipment that includes, but is not limited to, digital surfacing equipment including generators, polishers, and engravers from various manufacturers as well as lens edger's, blockers, and AR equipment. 

    

Key Responsibilities

  • Efficiently oversee and manage daily start up and close procedures of all production equipment and facilities to start production as soon as possible.
  • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on optical lab equipment, including lens cutting machines, coating machines, polishers, generators, and inspection devices.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues, implementing effective and timely solutions.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure equipment is operating efficiently and identify potential issues before they lead to equipment failure.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts inventory.
  • Collaborate with the production team to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption to lab operations.
  • Maintain Tech Support Portal for all Schneider machines.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations during all maintenance procedures.
  • Assist in the installation, setup, and calibration of new lab equipment.
  • Provide training and support to lab staff on proper equipment use and basic maintenance.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve maintenance processes and equipment performance. 

OPTICAL LAB FACILITY MAINTENANCE

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance
  • Ensure building systems operate efficiently
  • Perform all building maintenance to include HVAC, plumbing, lighting, electrical, landscaping, etc. to meet standards

TRAINING AND IMPROVEMENT

  • Attend training classes for new equipment when available
  • Engage in on-going training with Equipment Techs
  • Remain current on new product information
  • Learn to prioritize responsibilities to ensure exceptional internal and external customer service

Requirements

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent
  • Preferably 2 years of equipment maintenance experience
  • Proven ability to repair sophisticated equipment
  • Optical experience a plus, but not required
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Outlook, data entry, etc.)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills
  • Analytical and decision-making skills
  • Self-motivated and detail oriented
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize
  • Valid driver’s license

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & WORK REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels within the organization through written and two-way verbal communication
  • Able to read and write at a high school graduate level
  • Able to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  • Able to operate various office equipment and Optical Lab equipment
  • Demonstrate physical agility (bending, climbing, twisting, squatting, lifting, pushing, reaching, etc.) on a repetitive basis
  • Ability to lift an average of 25-35 pounds on a repetitive basis and up to 75 pounds
  • Ability to operate a pallet jack
  • Ability to see (Near, Distance, Color, and Depth Perception)
  • Manual and finger dexterity, as well as hand/arm steadiness
  • Ability to grip and hold items
  • Good eye and hand coordination
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
  • Able to travel independently to support Company objectives and personal development
  • Ability to perform work in various departments within the lab on business needs

Full-Time Position - Monday-Friday

40+ hours per week (some weekends may be required)
