Maintenance Technician – 3rd Shift
Location: Nashville, TN Shift: 3rd Shift, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, 2-2-3 rotating schedule Pay: $30.00 – $35.00/hour, based on experience Industry: Food Manufacturing (GMP Facility)
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join our 3rd shift team in a fast-paced, GMP-regulated food manufacturing facility in Nashville, TN. This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing production equipment — including conveyors, automated canning machinery, and PLC-controlled systems — to ensure maximum uptime, product quality, and food safety compliance.
This is a great opportunity for a hands-on technician who is comfortable working independently overnight and enjoys solving complex electromechanical and controls issues in a live production environment.
Schedule
- 3rd Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 2-2-3 rotating schedule (2 days on, 2 days off, 3 days on — alternating)
- Must be available for occasional overtime or schedule flexibility to support production needs
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, predictive, and reactive maintenance on production equipment, including conveyors and automated canning lines
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and controls issues to minimize downtime
- Diagnose and resolve issues with photo eye and camera sensor systems integrated through Allen Bradley PLC programs
- Monitor, adjust, and troubleshoot Servo drives and VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives)
- Read and interpret PLC logic (Allen Bradley) to identify faults and support troubleshooting; make minor program adjustments as needed
- Read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and equipment manuals to support repairs and installations
- Perform routine inspections and document maintenance activities in a CMMS or equivalent tracking system
- Maintain compliance with GMP, food safety, and sanitation standards at all times
- Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns during production to reduce downtime and product loss
- Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to support continuous improvement initiatives
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with plant safety policies
- Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and changeovers as needed
Qualifications
- 2+ years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in food/beverage manufacturing or another GMP-regulated environment
- Hands-on experience with conveyors and automated packaging/canning equipment
- Working knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC systems (troubleshooting required; programming experience a plus)
- Experience with photo eye and camera-based sensor systems
- Experience troubleshooting Servo drives and VFDs
- Strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems
- Ability to read electrical schematics and technical drawings
- Ability to work independently overnight with minimal supervision
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to perform under time pressure during downtime events
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical/trade school certification preferred
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods
- Ability to work in a food production environment (varying temperatures, wet/dry conditions, noise levels)
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces as needed, with proper safety equipment
