Job Overview:

**Summary:

**

Assist the Maintenance department with routine repairs, installations, construction and replacement of equipment. Perform simple facility maintenance duties under supervision.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

**Not limited to but including the following:

  • Visually inspect and test machinery and equipment

  • Dismantle defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts

  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery

  • Move furniture & perform light janitorial tasks

  • Remove, move or process scrap material in scrap area

  • Work under the direction of Maintenance Leader

  • Assist other Maintenance employees & departments with projects

  • Document status of repairs to machinery and equipment

  • Perform minor repairs to equipment to include gauges, motors, valves, pressure regulators, on hydraulic and pneumatic equipment

  • Operate cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts

  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment

  • Perform facilities maintenance duties to include simple carpentry, painting, minor plumbing, under supervision

  • Ensure that maintenance shop tools and work areas are maintained in a clean, safe and orderly manner. Secure necessary protective devices and observe work to ensure that safety practices are followed according to OSHA standards

  • Remove snow from walkways and fire exits in winter months

  • Remove ice buildup from buildings, walkways and fire exits

  • Properly store Maintenance parts and supplies when received from the shipping department

  • Assist shipping department in readying machinery for shipment

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 6 to 12 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Basic Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

Intermediate Skills: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

None required

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must possess or be able to obtain a fork truck and scissor lift license

Clean driving record (operate company vehicles)

Ability to successfully complete Lock Out / Tag Out Training

Other Skills and Abilities:

Previous maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment is desired.

Must have a solid understanding of mechanical systems with minimal formal education or training.

Must be able to use power tools including but not limited to drills, wrenches, saws and various hand tools.

Must be able to use general metal working tools including but not limited to lathes, mills, brakes, grinders and drill presses.

Must be able to use precision measuring instruments.

Must be able to perform multiple job assignments simultaneously.

Must be able and willing to work independently and as a member of the team.

Must have ability to communicate with people at all levels of the organization (co-workers, suppliers, etc.)

Must have basic understanding of technical drawings / blueprint reading.

Must have basic problem solving skills.

Must have basic knowledge of OSHA standards, and be able to apply to maintenance duties when directed.

Other Qualifications:

Minimal travel required (less than 5% of time)

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, wet conditions, work in high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.

Moderate to loud noise can be expected on this job. (Examples: business office with computers and printers to manufacturing departments such as Power Press and the use of Power Tools)
