Job Overview:

Maintenance Technician

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician to join our manufacturing team and play a critical role in maintaining safe, reliable, and production-ready equipment. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, equipment repairs, and continuous improvement across a variety of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC, and robotic systems.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on problem solver who can work independently, respond effectively to production needs, and help develop less-experienced maintenance team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on manufacturing equipment to maximize uptime and equipment reliability.

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC, robotic, and electromechanical systems.

  • Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns and production requests, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.

  • Lead and support equipment PM activities, ensuring maintenance schedules are completed accurately and on time.

  • Monitor equipment performance and identify potential failures before they result in unplanned downtime.

  • Read and interpret electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics and blueprints to diagnose equipment issues.

  • Use a variety of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and maintenance machinery safely and effectively.

  • Support and mentor MT1s and Maintenance Trainees, providing hands-on guidance and helping develop their technical skills.

  • Work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, and other departments to resolve equipment and process issues.

  • Participate in daily production meetings and communicate updates related to safety, quality, maintenance, downtime, production, and continuous improvement.

  • Conduct root cause analysis and recommend long-term corrective actions to prevent recurring equipment failures.

  • Operate maintenance room equipment and follow established procedures, safety standards, and work instructions.

  • Maintain equipment and work areas in a safe, clean, organized, and production-ready condition.

  • Document maintenance activities, repairs, PM completion, and equipment issues accurately.

  • Identify and recommend opportunities to improve equipment reliability, maintenance processes, safety, and overall team performance.

  • Maintain a high level of accountability, initiative, and professionalism while working independently or as part of a team.

  • Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA requirements.

  • Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • 3+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with experience troubleshooting industrial equipment.

  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC, robotics, and electromechanical systems.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics.

  • Proficiency with basic and advanced hand tools and maintenance equipment.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with Production, Engineering, and other maintenance personnel.

Preferred

  • Completion of a formal Maintenance Technician/Trainee Program.

  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting and industrial robotics.

  • Experience working with automated manufacturing equipment.

  • Basic computer skills and experience with CMMS or maintenance management systems.

  • Technical coursework or certifications from Ivy Tech or a similar technical institution.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds as part of routine maintenance activities.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in and around manufacturing equipment.

  • Ability to work safely around moving machinery, electrical systems, elevated equipment, and other industrial environments.

What Success Looks Like

The successful Maintenance Technician will help minimize downtime, improve equipment reliability, maintain a safe production environment, and strengthen the overall capabilities of the maintenance team. This individual should take ownership of problems, communicate effectively, and consistently look for ways to improve equipment and processes.
