Job Overview:

SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician II is the working core of the shift maintenance team. This role independently troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical faults across production and packaging equipment, performs changeovers to specification without direction, and executes the preventive maintenance program. This level is defined by independence and by the ability to move from a symptom to a cause. A Technician II is expected to keep equipment running through the shift, and to recognize when a fault is a repeat that needs a permanent fix rather than another repair.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Troubleshooting and Repair

• Independently troubleshoot and repair mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical faults on filling, sealing, labeling, case packing, palletizing, and conveying equipment.

• Diagnose faults using equipment manuals, mechanical and pneumatic schematics, electrical prints, and machine fault codes rather than by trial replacement of parts.

• Perform bearing, gearbox, drive, and seal replacement using correct alignment, tensioning, and torque practice.

• Perform changeovers and centerline setups to specification without direction, and verify the line runs to standard rate before releasing it.

• Support clean in place, sanitation, and thermal processing equipment readiness where applicable to the site. Reliability and Data

• Execute the preventive maintenance program, and recommend changes to task content or frequency based on actual failure history.

• Own accurate downtime and work order documentation, so equipment history reflects what actually happened and recurring problems can be identified.

• Identify repeat failures and bring them forward with supporting history rather than repairing the same fault indefinitely.

• Participate in failure investigations with Operations, Quality, and Engineering to determine why equipment failed and what will prevent it from happening again.

• Flag critical spare parts gaps, obsolete components, and parts quality issues to the Maintenance Manager. Team and Floor Support

• Coach Technician I team members on technique, safety, and documentation.

• Teach operators what to watch for on their equipment, what they can address themselves, and when to call maintenance.

• Provide clear shift handoff on open issues, temporary repairs, and equipment being watched.

• Follow lockout tagout, confined space, elevated work, GMP, allergen, and food safety requirements without exception.

• Other duties as assigned.

***QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS ***

**Required **

• High school diploma or GED.

• Three or more years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, or equivalent demonstrated capability including internal progression from Technician

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot independently and diagnose the actual cause rather than replacing parts until the fault clears.

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical schematics.

• Working knowledge of power transmission, precision alignment, bearings, gearboxes, pneumatics, and hydraulics.

• Working knowledge of electrical safety, motor starters, sensors, and basic variable frequency drive function, within the scope of electrical work permitted at the site.

• Proficiency using a maintenance management system for work orders, parts, and downtime.

• Ability to work off shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency call in as required.

Preferred

• Food, beverage, dairy, or other regulated manufacturing experience.

• Welding and fabrication capability.

• Familiarity with ammonia refrigeration and Process Safety Management requirements.

• Ability to interpret programmable logic controller fault messages and navigate an operator interface for diagnostics.

• Technical certificate or completed apprenticeship in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, or a related trade.

• Bilingual in English and Spanish.

*** WORK ENVIRONMENT ***

This job operates on the production floor of a food manufacturing facility. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet and slippery surfaces, cleaning chemicals, and loud noise requiring hearing protection. Work is performed in refrigerated, ambient, or mixed temperature areas depending on the site and the equipment being serviced. Work at elevation, in confined spaces, and around pressurized and energized systems occurs regularly and is governed by site safety procedures. Off shift, weekend, holiday, and emergency call in work is expected as production and equipment conditions require.
