What We’re Searching For:
We are looking for an experienced Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician for our Chicago Plant. Strong organizational, teamwork, and self-starter skills will lead you to success in this role.
How You Will Contribute:
- Perform required preventative maintenance (PM) programs and general maintenance tasks including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic repairs.
- Troubleshoot and repair problems in plant equipment while following established procedures.
- Understand electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic schematics to troubleshoot and repair equipment.
- Use and troubleshoot variable speed AC and DC drive controllers. Understand servo motion controls, incremental and absolute position encoders, and resolvers.
- Analyze and repair PLC-controlled equipment using appropriate techniques and peripheral equipment.
- Conduct root cause failure analysis and use problem-solving techniques to ensure effective equipment repairs.
- Document all work performed in a timely, accurate, and detailed manner using the current maintenance system.
- Continuously improve machines and standardized procedures for maintenance.
- Communicate ideas effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Safely use, handle, and maintain tools and equipment.
- Adhere to OSHA and Hood Corporation’s standards, including energy isolation procedures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of vision and robotic systems (a plus).
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
Working Conditions:
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts.
- Frequent exposure to wet and/or humid conditions.
- Work at heights up to 38 feet and in temperature extremes (-20°F to 125°F).
What It Takes:
- Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 3 years of related experience in a production environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Mathematical Skills: Proficiency in basic math, including the use of tape measures and other measuring devices.
- Technical Skills:
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Ability to read electrical meters and schematics.
- Knowledge of power tools and basic carpentry, plumbing, welding, HVAC, and electrical skills.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs. repeatedly and perform tasks requiring bending, crouching, kneeling, and extended overhead work.
- Flexibility: Ability to work overtime as needed.
