Job Summary

Primary responsibilities include overseeing and the development of the maintenance hourly team for the safe execution of all mechanical activities within the area of responsibility.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Lead and mentor Mechanical Technicians by example through a respectful, positive attitude
  • Conduct morning meeting with Technicians focusing on any key risk for the day
  • Assign daily work assignments by priority and schedule
  • Ensure Technicians take ownership in work activities and maintain a sense of urgency work ethic while staying compliant with all safety policies and procedures
  • Set an expectation for consistent quality work performance to Technicians and Contractors.
  • Hold all employees accountable for their performance
  • Make sure Technicians and Contractors follow recognized and generally accepted practices. Instill an ownership mentality in Maintenance Technicians to perform quality work; minimize re-work.
  • Oversee all daily contract and in-house maintenance activities for the assigned area(s) of the plant and remove obstacles where applicable.
  • Work with Operations to ensure work schedule by priority.
  • Work with contract resources to reduce excessive backlog or project work
  • Manage manpower resources to minimize delays
  • Ensure weekly PM compliance
  • Strive to spend time in the work area(s) to optimize Maintenance Technician work efficiency
  • Set an expectation that the Technicians have a work order, review a maintenance procedure (when applicable), and receive a work permit prior to executing any work order
  • Review completed work orders for completeness and coach direct reports on the importance of providing quality feedback.
  • Evaluate Preventive/Predictive work orders for improvements that may increase equipment reliability
  • Provide input to optimize plant reliability, i.e., critical spare parts inventory, spare part upgrades, work priority, equipment health observations, craft training, specialty tools, etc.
  • Plan for efficient unit outages and turnarounds, from cradle-to-grave
  • Recognize Technicians skill deficiencies, training needs, and propose solutions to close gaps
  • Provide updated information for files, logs, and drawings, for all designated mechanical equipment
  • Assist reliability team with finding root cause on equipment failures
  • Assist other departments and craft capabilities as needed to complete specific jobs with available resources
  • Communicate expectations to contractors concerning work performance, timesheets, and invoicing requirements.
  • Effectively communicate to Technicians work performance and expectations
  • Be on-call 24/7 for your assigned work areas shared with the respective Maintenance Planner.
  • Present a professional image at all times to clients and vendors, maintain a positive reputation for the company

Qualifications


Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills

  • 5-8+ years in plant maintenance experience, including 5+ years of prior chemical plant experience (preferred).
  • Associates degree or technical education preferred
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, documents, drawings, specification sheets, etc.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
  • General knowledge of regulatory requirements, including OSHA, EPA, NFPA and other standards.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Good computer, organization, planning and time management skills.
  • Experience with various chemical unit operations.
  • Knowledge and practice of leadership and management abilities.
  • Ability to create and lead teams to drive change.
  • Ability to utilize and drive teamwork throughout the organization.
  • Knowledge in maintenance planning & computerized maintenance management software.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Physical ability to work around and on industrial equipment, including frequent climbing of stairs and ladders.
  • Willingness to work around dust, chemicals, high temperature, loud noises, and running equipment.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in designated areas (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel toed boots and hearing protection) in addition to full face respirator as necessary in emergencies.
  • Must be able to lift as much as 25 lbs.

This position deals with hazardous materials and/or industrial processes that can pose a risk to employees and the general public. This facility is required to comply with security standards under Department of Homeland Security (DHS) CFATS regulation 6 CFR Part 27.
