**Job Summary
**
The Maintenance Supervisor (Ductile Iron Casting) directs and coordinates the daily activities of the maintenance department within a heavy manufacturing foundry environment. This role is responsible for maximizing uptime, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining critical ductile iron production equipment—including electric induction furnaces, automated molding lines, sand systems, and blast cleaning machinery.
**Core Responsibilities
**
**Team Leadership & Safety
**
Supervise and mentor a team of multi-crafted maintenance technicians (mechanical, electrical, PLC/automation).
Enforce strict safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, fall protection, and PPE compliance.
Lead root-cause analysis (RCA) investigations for equipment failures to prevent recurrence.
**Foundry Equipment Maintenance
**
Oversee melt shop maintenance, including coreless induction furnaces, water-cooling systems, charging systems, and refractory linings.
Manage molding line uptime, troubleshooting automatic flask or flaskless molding machines (e.g., DISAMATIC, Hunter, Sinto) and automated pouring systems.
Maintain sand-handling systems, including green sand mixers, mullers, aerators, elevators, and dust collection networks.
Support finishing operations, including shot blast machines, grinding equipment, and CNC machining centers.
**Operational Excellence
**
Execute the Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) programs using a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
Coordinate emergency repairs during unplanned downtime events to minimize production loss.
Manage spare parts inventory, ensuring critical foundry components (furnace parts, hydraulics, bearings, sensors) are stocked.
Oversee third-party contractors during major rebuilds, shutdown maintenance windows, or capital expenditure (CapEx) projects.
**Required Qualifications & Skills
**
**Experience & Education
**
Minimum of 3–5 years of maintenance supervisory experience in a heavy industrial environment, with foundry or steel mill experience heavily preferred.
Strong background in ductile or gray iron casting processes and associated machinery.
High school diploma or GED required; Technical degree or journeyman card in a relevant trade (Electrical, Mechanical) is highly preferred.
**Technical Skills
**
Electrical & Automation: Proficient in 480V 3-phase power, control circuits, and PLC troubleshooting (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens).
Mechanical & Fluid Power: Advanced knowledge of industrial hydraulics, pneumatics, heavy-duty gearboxes, and precision alignment.
Metallurgical Equipment: Direct experience with induction melting technology and furnace refractory maintenance.
**Leadership Competencies
**
Ability to work in a high-heat, dusty, and fast-paced heavy industrial environment.
Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with production supervisors and plant management.
Excellent problem-solving skills under pressure during critical breakdowns.
