Maintenance Supervisor
Location: Akron, OH
Salary: $70,000–$80,000 annually
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7am–4pm, with some flexibility
Position Overview
We are seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to lead equipment and facility maintenance in a manufacturing environment in Akron, OH. This role combines team leadership with hands-on technical support, ensuring machinery operates safely and reliably while minimizing production downtime.
You will oversee daily maintenance activities, develop preventive maintenance programs, coordinate repairs, and support technician development. Previous plastics manufacturing experience, particularly injection molding, is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise maintenance personnel, assign daily work and coordinate staffing, vacation coverage and repair priorities.
- Schedule maintenance around production requirements to minimize downtime.
- Develop and manage preventive maintenance programs, maintaining equipment histories, repair records and maintenance costs.
- Support troubleshooting and repair of electrical, electronic, mechanical and hydraulic systems, including injection molding equipment.
- Train and coach technicians, providing hands-on assistance when needed.
- Coordinate facility upkeep, including HVAC, roofing, grounds, snow removal and fire protection systems.
- Manage outside contractors, service providers and equipment inspections.
- Enforce safe work practices, including lockout/tagout, electrical safety, hazard communication, lift truck safety and working at heights.
- Support applicable OSHA, EPA and local compliance requirements, inspections and emergency preparedness.
- Work with engineering, operations and production teams to resolve equipment issues and complete maintenance projects.
- Order parts, supplies and equipment to support planned maintenance and urgent repairs.
- Handle departmental employee issues in partnership with management and HR.
- Perform hands-on maintenance work as needed and in accordance with any applicable collective bargaining agreement.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in industrial technology, electrical technology or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Five or more years of maintenance supervisory experience, or five to seven years of electrical/electronic or machine repair experience in a lead capacity.
- Plastics manufacturing or injection molding experience strongly preferred.
- Strong electrical, mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting skills.
- Experience maintaining manufacturing equipment and building systems.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and technical documentation.
- Experience developing preventive maintenance schedules and maintaining accurate repair records.
- Knowledge of maintenance safety procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance or manufacturing systems; DELMIAWorks experience preferred.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands and ensure repairs are completed correctly and on time.
Physical and Availability Requirements
- Ability to move throughout the facility and stand for extended periods.
- Ability to assist with equipment repairs, work in awkward positions and work at heights when required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to support occasional overtime, weekends, other shifts and after-hours calls or site attendance when necessary.
- Occasional travel to vendors, suppliers or training may be required.
