Plant Overview:
- 3-Shift Operation
- Non- Union Facility with approximately 200 hourly staff members which are a mix of temporary and full-time associates.
- 100% Food Service, 4 bag soup lines, 1 tub line, 18 Kettles, 5 Filling lines, and 4 packaging lines.
- Products include Frozen Soups and Macaroni & Cheese
Company History: Kraft Heinz in Cedar Rapids started as Ashby Soups and was originated in the mid 1980’s by Jamie and Shannon Ashby, along with their mother, using family held recipes for many kinds of soups. In the 1990s’ the name was changed to Quality Chef Foods. Heinz acquired Quality Chef foods in the mid 2000’s. In 2015 Kraft and Heinz merged to become Kraft Heinz as we know it today.

The primary function is to plan and execute work to maintain, troubleshoot, repair and improve (HNA) automation, controls, and technology systems and equipment per KH engineering standards. This position may require a B.S. degree in a related engineering field and a minimum of three (3) years’ experience. Or equivalent demonstrated experience on the job and commitment to a timeline for achieving the required degree. This individual will interact with various groups within the plant as well as outside resources such as consulting engineers, architects, draftspersons, and contractors that cover all disciplines – electrical, mechanical, civil, environmental, and controls.
Responsibilities & Duties:
- Must have working knowledge of Rockwell Automation software such as but not limited to, Factory Talk, Panel Builder, Control Logix, RS Logix.
- Provide project management assistance for integration on major capital expenditures which ensures projects are on time and within budget and that the installed systems are fully functional, meeting all requirements.
- Provide input and feedback regarding capital appropriations and expenditure to meet guidelines.
- Provide technical input (e.g. layout drawings and capital estimates) to upper management regarding potential options for capital projects.
- To provide support to the Engineering manager on projects including the generation of project documents as well as utilizing commitment control documents, generating, and maintaining timetables and key measurements, and may assist with directing internal and external resources, etc.
- Execute strategies for automation, controls, and technology, which will reduce cost and improve quality of Heinz products.
- To interact with other maintenance and engineering department personnel as required, creating a cohesive, cross-functional team for the development and delivery of key projects.
- Areas of expertise should include electronics, controls, instrumentation, data collections systems.
- Adhere to standards and protocol for bid packages to deliver cost effective engineered solutions.
- Ensure compliance of all control systems with regulatory agencies including FDA, AIB, OSHA, NEC, USDA, NFPA, BOCA, etc. Ability to understand and ensure that all systems also comply with state and local codes and standards.
- May be required to perform other tasks as needed.
- Assists with project installations and retains ownership through start-up and project closure.
- Provides training and technical services at the plant level.
- Prepares updates for presentation to management.
- Provide IT support.
- Set up computers.
- Analyze IT issues and resolve them.
- Position requires that the individual not only have a thorough understanding of current, accepted methods and solutions, but they also stay up to date on new technologies, etc. to deliver the most cost-effective solutions to Heinz North America.
- Responsible for following all Food Safety Policies and Safety Procedures.
- Responsible for Quality Risk Management Process (Q-RMP) responsibilities and activities as defined and signed by System and Operational Standards Accountability List

Qualifications:
- Expectations are that this person can manage all aspects of assignments from interaction with various groups at the concept stage through final delivery, i.e. Marketing through factory personnel.
- This person must possess the technical skills to perform at a high competency level in processing systems, packaging systems, control systems, and facility design to meet product design and performance criteria.
- This person must be customer-service minded.
- This person must possess IT skills.
- This person must have the ability to communicate and coordinate between peers to promote Best Practices for Controls, Automation, and technology across all KH manufacturing locations.
- Must be detail-oriented and possess good organizational skills
- Must be able to perform well under stress
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to work independently and with others.
