Description

Job Summary:

The maintenance lead / weekend planner will work to improve work force productivity and work quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays through planning and coordination of labor, parts, material, and equipment access. 

 

The maintenance lead / weekend planner will work to describe each job in terms of how it is to be performed and what resources will be required so the maintenance crew performing the work understands the expectations.   

 

The maintenance lead / weekend planner will support all of the purchasing, receiving, reordering, and work order database management for the building while supporting all other members of the maintenance group with any other repairs, projects, etc. deemed necessary by the department manager.  

 

Additionally, the lead / weekend planner is responsible for maintaining all work order records and equipment files essential to the meaningful analysis and reporting of maintenance related matters. 

 

Maintaining regular communication between the production, scheduling, purchasing, and maintenance groups is also essential to the role of the maintenance lead / weekend planner. 

 

Essential Lead Functions:

  • Shift Handoff (15 min prior to end of shift)
  • Attend Morning Production Meeting (During weekdays scheduled)
  • Hold GMP / Safety Meetings / Toolbox Topics
  • Respond to the Calls / Lead the Crew
    • Assist with troubleshooting and repairs as needed
    • Prioritize breakdown / repair / project work with department manager
    • Follow PM schedule / attend PM’s / complete assigned tasks
    • Communicate equipment needs / downtime to scheduling
  • Machine Champion Assignments

     - Champions Goto Machines (30 min)

     - Champions Post W/O's at Machines

     - Champions Report Back on Needs

  • Reactive / Backlog W/O's Assigned Daily (1 per person)
    • Assign work orders daily to all other members of maintenance crew
    • Follow up on status and time to completion on all pending work orders
    • Verify that all maintenance members are accounting for work performed on work orders by entering labor, parts, time, etc.
  • Mid-Shift Text ("Everything Running")
  • Shift Actions

     - Ensure all LOTO / GMP's / Safety Procedures are followed

     - Safety Assessment Every Repair

     - Tool Part Recovery Every Repair

     - Complete Gemba Walks

     - Direct Required Training

          - Maintenance New Hire / Ink Waste / Boiler / Etc

     - Ensure Necessary Permits are Completed

          - Roof Access / Hot Work / Etc

     - Complete Rebuild Work as Time Permits

          - Ink Pumps / Glue Heads / Etc

     - Clean the Shop (GMP's / BRC)

  • Complete All W/O's Finished During Shift
  • Send End of Shift Email
  • Attend Afternoon Production Meeting (During weekdays scheduled)
  • Shift Handoff (15 min prior to end of shift)

 

Essential Planning Functions:

  • Maintenance Job Planning
    • Work with operations to describe, approve, and control timing of work to be done
    • Coordinate with scheduling for equipment downtime
    • Assist with development of annual overhaul / shutdown schedules
    • Communicate with work requestors for complete clarity of work to be performed
    • Discuss with operations how work will be performed and what will be involved
    • Communicate with maintenance and operations the expectations of work before equipment is taken out of service
    • Review part reorder alerts and set reorder quantities to minimize downtime
    • Inspect parts available, verify that all parts are here for upcoming scheduled work orders when received, and communicate with Maintenance Manager
    • Assist with parts research for repair work and identify part numbers for reordering and communicate to purchasing
    • Communicate and follow up after work has been completed to verify no further actions are needed. 
    • Support the maintenance manager in building the weekend plan for the current week and for upcoming weeks in advance.  Compile information from PM findings, parts available, items limiting production, weekly planned feed table / roll replacement work, and tech findings / availability. 

 

  • Support CMMS (work order / purchase order) database for daily work orders
    • Daily check on Hot/Rush parts ordered to reduce equipment downtime
    • Track all parts needed for all open work orders
    • Physically validate / verify parts inventory for all parts used on work orders for work completed.  Support maintenance leads in this function. 

 

  • Plan all Preventive Maintenance and Service Techs
    • Review all Lubrication / Mechanical / Electrical PM work orders and align with the shared PM calendar for completion
    • Validate/update times and parts used on all above
    • Review all PM findings, order necessary parts for repairs, and schedule repairs as needed.  Follow up to make sure all findings have been completed.
    • Talk with operators on all comments and relay all relevant information to Maintenance Manager
    • Work with operators/crews to improve PM lists and acquire tools necessary to complete work
    • Review PM backlog report and work with Scheduling to get all PM accomplished by due date
    • Physically generate new PMs daily for completion, sort, and distribute as needed
    • Create new and /or update PMs on a detail-by-detail basis as necessary in coordination with Maintenance Manager to consistently improve current PM program
    • Schedule service tech PM, order associated parts for repair, coordinate the repair time with scheduling and Maintenance Manager, and verify that work is completed in its entirety.
    • Coordinate with all techs – schedule tech visits, communicate with them while onsite, and follow up with any pending actions after reports are submitted or problems are found. 

 

  • Support the Repair and Maintenance and Capital Expenditure budgets
    • Prioritize ordering and make decisions based on budget allowances, lead times, and equipment reliability
    • Communicate large repair cost estimates to purchasing / maintenance manager for proper planning

Qualifications


Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma/GED preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years’ industrial maintenance experience required
  • Computer literate (Word, Excel, PMC)
  • Good typing skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Detailed knowledge of parts for identification purposes
  • Mechanical / Electrical aptitude and understanding of machines

Machines/Tools/Equipment:

Assortment of hand and small power tools, computer, basic office equipment, tow motor, etc

Working Conditions:

Manufacturing environment working around machinery, moving equipment, and loud noise (hearing protection required), Environment is not climate controlled and there is exposure to a wide range of temperatures (temperature varies depending on work/machine location and ranges from 50 degree F to 100 degree F), Possibility of outside work in all types of weather conditions (including heat, cold, rain, and snow).
