Job Title:     Maintenance Mechanic I

Reports to:  Maintenance Manager

Shift:            Monday-Friday 2:00pm-10:30pm

Job Summary

The Maintenance Mechanic I performs preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure production equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently. This role uses hands-on mechanical expertise and basic electrical troubleshooting skills to diagnose and repair routine equipment issues with minimal supervision while supporting production goals and equipment reliability.


Essential Duties

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to ensure safe and reliable equipment performance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair standard mechanical issues such as bearings, belts, chains, gearboxes, and drives, escalating complex or electrical problems when necessary.
  • Possess a solid understanding of manufacturing equipment, components, and operating principles, with the ability to identify and resolve common mechanical or minor electrical issues safely and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate basic electrical knowledge and adherence to electrical safety standards when inspecting, testing, or repairing equipment.
  • Utilize the Maintenance Management System (MMS) to document work orders, track repairs, and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Understand production priorities and equipment performance needs, coordinating maintenance work to minimize downtime and support operational goals.
  • Perform equipment inspections, adjustments, and part replacements, ensuring proper function and extending equipment life.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and schematics to complete maintenance and repair activities effectively.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored.
  • Follow and promote safety policies and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, immediately reporting or correcting unsafe conditions as needed.

 

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Basic understanding of electrical safety and troubleshooting practices.
  • Proficient in the safe use of hand tools, power tools, and material-handling equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance instructions, schematics, and manuals.
  • Familiarity with Maintenance Management Software (MMS) for documenting and tracking work orders.
  • Effective problem-solving, prioritization, and communication skills; self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical calculations for measurements, tolerances, and part alignment
  • Effective prioritization and time management skills to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Consistent commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.

Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, industrial equipment, and preventive maintenance practices normally acquired through completion of a high school diploma or GED, and/or equivalent hands-on experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment.
  • Technical coursework, vocational training, or apprenticeship experience in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance preferred.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods of time.
  • Capability to lift and carry objects of various weights up to 100 pounds frequently.
  • Proficiency in using hands, fingers, and arms for tasks such as typing and writing.
  • Sufficient visual acuity to read documents and recognize details at close and distant ranges.
  • Ability to hear and understand verbal communication.
  • Flexibility to bend, stoop, and reach low or high objects.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying heavy objects.
  • Adaptability to work in varying environmental conditions, such as temperature extremes, noise, dust, or fumes, depending on the nature of the job.
  • Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and wear protective gear, including helmets, goggles, gloves, and safety shoes, as required by the job.

Travel Requirements 

This position requires (occasional/routine/frequent) overnight travel and occasional travel within the workday. 


Driver Qualification

The ability to drive a company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle on behalf of the company preferred.Inclusion in the company’s driver qualification program is required to drive a company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle. 


Becoming a qualified driver includes:

  • Agree to the company driving policies that apply to company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle as applicable.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license and be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record, as evidenced by completion of a baseline motor vehicle record check and ongoing monitoring.
  • When driving a personal vehicle on behalf of the company, must provide a copy of the declaration page from personal auto insurance that shows the policy dates and minimum coverage amounts ($300,000 bodily injury per accident/$100,000 property damage per accident or if driving less than 5 hours/200 miles a year $50,000 bodily injury per accident/$10,000 property damage per accident or the state minimum, whichever is more). This requirement is initially and then annually thereafter.
