Position Summary: Mechanic for Manufacturing and Support Facilities. Per instructions from the Manager, the mechanic will be responsible for installing and maintaining plant machinery and equipment for the Extract Support Facility, CO2 and Advanced Products Plants, and Packaging.
Shift: 7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday
Primary Responsibilities: (Must consider: 1) knowledge required; 2) problem solving; and 3) accountability.)
50% 1. Maintenance Activities:
- Troubleshoot and repair processing equipment and support systems, requesting through the manager’s office any specialized outside assistance as required.
- Operate welding equipment, cutting torches, presses, grinders, saws, power tools, hand tools, testing devices and other shop equipment necessary to fabricate, install, modify, and repair plant equipment and systems.
- Operate trucks, tractors, lift trucks and other rolling equipment as required for plant maintenance.
- Perform equipment inspections, lubrication, and periodic servicing as required in conjunction with the elapsed time meter and the PM system.
- Maintain updated inventory information on spare parts and shop supplies in stock.
- Obtain required maintenance tools, parts, and supplies from suppliers using the established purchase order and invoice system.
15% 2. Safety
- Be aware and comply with all safety regulations and/or recommendations regarding performing maintenance duties in and around a high-pressure CO2 extraction operation, hydrogenation and reduction processes, and all hazardous systems in the manufacturing plants, supporting systems, and warehouses.
- Install appropriate warning signs and devices to identify areas or equipment under repair, bringing attention to any hazards that may temporarily exist due to removed guards, disassembled equipment, obstructed walkways, etc.
- Adhere to, and ensure other personnel adhere to, all recommended safety procedures and practices.
- Lead all required safety procedures following all JIH safety policies.
- Ensure complete documentation and retention of all required safety permits and other safety related documents when required.
- Inspect sensors and safety equipment.
- Ensure safety communication board is up to date and update if necessary.
- Assist with writing safety SOPs when needed.
15% 3. 5S and General Housekeeping:
- Perform assigned 5S tasks and maintain work areas in an orderly, clean and litter free condition.
15% 4. Leadership:
- Train, direct and instruct Mechanics Grades 2 and 3 in the performance of their assigned duties and be responsible for the quality and quantity of work performed by these employees.
- Assist with writing SOPs when needed. Perform leadership tasks through positive communication and coordination between plant management, crew leads, and operator team.
- Help implement and communicate production, safety, quality, and food safety issues.
- Create an environment of problem solving by utilizing the Kaizen log and other communication tools and encouraging others to do the same.
- Assist Supervisor with other leadership duties as requested.
5% 5. Other Duties as assigned
Conditions of Employment:
- Normal job requirements call for a scheduled 40-hour work week.
- Hours worked in excess of 8 per day or 40 per week are paid as overtime per the current union agreement.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders and lift 100 pounds with or without assistance.
- Must have adequate vision and hearing to perform job.
- Must comply with all John I. Haas, Inc. policies and procedures, including successful passing of pre-employment drug test.
- Must comply with our Integrated Management System (IMS) and be trained on procedures applicable to the requirements of the position, including managing significant quality, environmental, and food safety aspects.
- Ability for On-Call 1 week per month.
- Must be able to work from heights and in confined spaces.
Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills required of the Position)
- Extensive mechanical background.
- Knowledge of machinery and equipment. Instrumentation, process controls, valves/pumps, refrigeration, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic and steam system background.
- Extensive metal working skills.
- SharePoint, D365 ERP, Allen Bradley, and/or Auto CAD experience
- Relevant OSHA/WISHA certifications and trainings. Ability to identify and control hazards.
- Understanding of physical, chemical, and atmospheric hazards.
- Must be able to adequately perform all job duties at current grade level before being eligible for advancement to the next grade level. Eligibility for advancement is also dependent on department needs and ability to train (and certify when appropriate) on upper grade responsibilities
