Description

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: The Maintenance Mechanic position requires experience and skill in electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical areas associated with plastics injection molding equipment and general facility grounds and equipment. Under direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance mechanic must provide support to production while following all safety procedures and policies.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•    Position requires experience and skill in electrical, hydraulic, mechanical areas, and general facility grounds and equipment. Working knowledge of machine tool operations such as; drill press, hose crimper, volt meters, amp
meters, thermocouple calibration unit, micrometers, calipers, scales, levels, etc.
•    Preferred experience with plastics injection molding equipment  
•    Trouble shoot programmable controllers
•    Trouble shoot equipment with CNC pneumatics and hydraulic controls
•    Installs wiring, make adjustment to & calibrates machines
•    Removes, replaces and/or repairs machinery
•    Takes work orders out of maintenance system and completes in a timely manner
•    Completes or assist in parts requisitions in maintenance system with correct part numbers and vendors
•    Insures all safety and LOTO procedures are followed; must follow all safety procedures and requirements. 
•    Responsible for parts inventory
•    Preventative maintenance on equipment and adheres to published standards. Basic PM inspections and properly complete required paperwork.
•    Ensure correct components are available to complete PM’s per the PM Master schedule.
•    Cope with unforeseen situations, i.e., problems with process, machine speeds, reoccurring defects, detection/correction of unsafe conditions, and detection/correction of machinery problem issues.
•    Perform machine rebuilds/modifications and fabrication of all types; also support all departments, i.e., production, engineering, tool room, warehouse, and EHS.
•    Maintain a clean, safe and orderly working area and be accountable for your designated area of 5’s.
•    Operate equipment to test its functioning and overall performance.
•    Assist in all projects. This would include all aspects of a new project, i.e. placement, installation, fabrication and assembly of all associated equipment that may come with any project.  This could also include working over and beyond a normal work day when needed.
•    Operate hand tools and power tools, as needed for repairs and troubleshooting.  Read gauges and information on computer screens to diagnose equipment performance issues.
•    Be alert to and welcome new learning opportunities. Always try to increase education/training.
•    Must follow all parts inventory guidelines. This includes assisting to keep all parts storage areas in order.
•    Must follow all procedures and take full ownership for maintenance PM/DM software and schedule. This includes demanding WOR’s for jobs worked on, completing and closing out of these WOR’s (that do not include parts). Must turn in all other WOR’s that did require parts to tool crib attendant. 
•    Must follow all daily checklist guidelines and have a working knowledge of lubrication requirements as they pertain to equipment specifications.
•    Follow GMP rules.
•    Report oil, grease or water leaks to supervisor or technicians.
•    Ensure line is clean and free from dust accumulation.
•    Ensure leaks are properly collected.
•    Identify production lots for traceability purposes.
•    Fill out cleaning schedule.
•    Report any conditions which could compromise food safety.
•    Use only approved chemicals to be used on the floor.
•    Do not put any item involved in product realization on the floor.
•    Manage Critical Control Points where applicable.
•    Report upset conditions.
•    Enter data and provide paperwork required to maintain an efficient maintenance system.
•    Minimize waste and prevent pollution to protect the environment.
•    Perform duties in an efficient manner without damage to company equipment and furnishings.
•    Constantly monitor & follow standard housekeeping procedures - Keep work area clean.
•    Perform assignments according to standards-stay in assigned work area.
•    Follow work instructions and provide/receive constructive feedback from others.
•    Use spare time and clean up time constructively to keep tools and equipment in good condition.
•    Promote teamwork with all other employees and departments.
•    Follow all food safety guidelines while on the manufacturing floor.
•    Report any deviation from food safety protocol to the functional responsible personnel.
•    Ensure that (where applicable) the supply chain is made aware of their food safety obligations as our
•    partner in the quest to deliver a safe product to the consuming public. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None 

 

EDUCATIONAL AND OTHER SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
•    High school diploma or GED certification perferred; however, three to five years’ experience from on-the-job training programs and maintenance experience is required.  Some degree of understanding in the injection molding process along with all of its support equipment i.e., AEC’s, loaders, ohmites, chillers, conveyors, etc, and the use of tools and devises used to repair and maintain equipment and facilities.  
•    Must have knowledge of electrical and hydraulic principles.  Experience in troubleshooting, reading prints and the repair of all manufacturing machinery.
•    Must have knowledge of mechanical principles, plus the knowledge to visualize arrangement and relationships between static or moving parts, and assemblies represented in blueprints and diagrams.
•    Requires a working knowledge of machine tool operations such as:  drill press, hose crimper, etc.
•    Must possess experience in the use of all types of fabricating equipment: welders - arc, tig, oxygen/acetylene, plasma cutting, etc.
•    Requires a working knowledge of test and measurement equipment, i.e., volt meters, amp meters, thermocouple calibration unit, micrometers, calipers, scales, levels, etc.
•    Requires technical background with an understanding of blueprints and schematics, skills in problem solving techniques, data entry into maintenance systems, and equipment troubleshooting.  
•    Must have understanding and troubleshooting knowledge of closure manufacturing and support equipment, i.e., liners, assemblies, scorers, palletizer, etc.
•    Locate and find information on an electronic data base of controlled documents, procedures, training, etc.; ability to focus on details for long periods of time; internal and external customer service is required

•    Teamwork, positive communication with others, and team problem solving are required.  Written communication must follow CSI standards and values.  This position requires frequent verbal and written communication with all employees and management at the facility.  In some cases, the position may require communication with equipment manufacturers or representatives.
•    The incumbent helps provide a safe work place by assisting in developing, promoting and following practices which prevent injury and meet legal safety requirements.
•    Follows all food safety guidelines while on the manufacturing floor.
•    Reports any deviation from food safety protocol to the functional responsible personnel.

 

POSITION DEMANDS: 

•    Regular and reliable attendance and punctuality.  
•    Ability to engage in shift work.  Employees in this area will be assigned to shifts, day or night work, or 8,10,or12 hour shifts.
•    Customer Interaction required. This position has both internal and external customers, so positive communication is required at all times, both written and verbal.
•    Teamwork is required of all employees in the facility including positive team communications, conflict management, problem solving, and following principles, policies, and values in the employee handbook and the facility’s controlled documents.
•    Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment/clothing:  All hourly CSI employees in the Kilgore, TX facility are required to wear T-shirt uniforms, pants in good repair, ANSI Z41.1991 Safety Shoes, ANSI Z87.1 Safety Glasses, Approved eyewear, hairnets, gloves, and safety vests in specific applications following our GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) policies.  All Salaried employees must also comply with these standards while on the manufacturing floor except the T-shirt uniform requirement.
•    Travel is not typically required of this position.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:*
The work environment includes exposure to Operating machinery in a manufacturing environment, constant noise, grease, dirt or oil. Constant exposure to moving parts and equipment requires high degree of caution and safety to avoid minor or serious injury. Temperature regulated work environment in addition to exposure to extremely warm or cold outside conditions or areas of the facility that are not temperature regulated.  May handle chemicals to perform cleaning of equipment parts.
