Maintenance Technician – Food Manufacturing
Location: Mundelein/Vernon Hills Area, IL
Pay:
$28–$40/hour, based on experience
Shifts Available:- 2nd Shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
- 3rd Shift: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM
Position Overview
Our client, a fast-paced food manufacturing company in the Mundelein area, is seeking experienced
Maintenance Technicians
to join their team. The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving automated production and packaging equipment to keep operations running safely and efficiently.This position is approximately
60% electrical and 40% mechanical, with a strong focus on troubleshooting automated machinery. The ideal candidate will be able to quickly diagnose and resolve equipment issues, often within
5–10 minutes, to minimize production downtime.## Key Responsibilities
Preventive Maintenance
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on production and packaging equipment.
- Inspect machinery for wear, performance issues, and potential failures.
- Lubricate equipment and replace filters, bearings, shafts, and other components as needed.
- Assemble and disassemble equipment for maintenance and repairs.
- Complete adjustments and component replacements to maintain equipment efficiency.
Troubleshooting & Repairs
- Troubleshoot and repair
electrical and mechanical components
on automated production equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems and equipment operating up to
110V.
- Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns during production and resolve issues within 5–10 minutes whenever possible.
- Perform repairs and replace defective components to minimize production downtime.
Equipment & Installation
- Assist with the installation, setup, and improvement of new machinery and equipment.
- Support equipment upgrades and modifications.
- Work closely with the Maintenance Supervisor and production team to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
Equipment Experience
Experience troubleshooting and maintaining food production equipment such as:- Conveyors
- Mixers
- Ovens
- Automated production equipment
- Packaging machinery
- Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or an associate degree is a plus.
- 2+ years of maintenance experience in a food manufacturing environment.
- Food manufacturing experience is required.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting skills; approximately 60% of the role involves electrical troubleshooting.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair automated machinery.
- Familiarity with preventive maintenance practices and CMMS systems.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
- Welding experience preferred.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced production environment.
- Must be comfortable working in both warm and cold manufacturing environments.
- Must be available to work overtime as needed.
- Ability to lift up to
50 lbs.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on Maintenance Technician with a strong
food manufacturing background
and the ability to quickly troubleshoot automated production equipment. Candidates should be comfortable working under pressure, have strong electrical and mechanical skills, and be able to identify and resolve equipment problems quickly to keep production running.
