Job Overview:
Position: Maintenance Mechanic
Pay: $30.15/hr with potential to increase additional $4.84/hour if completion of Pay-For-Skills.
Shift: Primarily 1st shift, but must be willing to work overtime, including weekends

Sonoco in Richmond, VA is seeking an hourly Maintenance Mechanic. This location produces a finished paperboard from recycled paper material. While reporting to the Maintenance Excellence Coordinator, we expect you to have a proven record of quality workmanship, a strong work ethic and ability to work effectively with co-workers and management, and for the safe, efficient performance of all duties, and must be willing to complete all tasks assigned by management.
What you will be doing:
- Maintain and troubleshoot issues with mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Precisely install couplings, bearings, pumps, rolls, motors, gearboxes and other mechanical equipment using state of the art alignment tools.
- Metal working including cutting and welding for fabricating.
- Hydraulics and fitting
- Preventative maintenance.
- Maintaining a safe, clean and organized work area.

- You have a proven record of success in a fast-paced environment.
- Have excellent analytical abilities, organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of process equipment used in a Paper Mill.
- Have extensive understanding of rigging.
- Able to work alternating weekends, some holidays, and available to answer call-ins on a rotating basis.
- Prefer you to have a 2-year Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance or related field and/or have at least 3 - 5 years minimum work experience in Industrial Maintenance.
- You own your own tools.
- Are a team player.
