Maintenance Manager

Position Summary

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance, reliability, power generation, and facility maintenance activities within a continuous manufacturing environment. This role ensures the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, utility, and power generation systems. The Maintenance Manager oversees maintenance personnel, manages budgets and capital projects, ensures regulatory compliance, and drives operational excellence through continuous improvement initiatives.

Primary Responsibilities

Safety Leadership

• Promote and maintain a strong safety culture throughout all maintenance operations.
• Ensure compliance with company safety policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Lead safety initiatives and drive continuous improvement in workplace safety performance.
• Maintain safe performance and accountability of all direct and indirect reports.

Maintenance & Asset Reliability

• Ensure the reliability, performance, and integrity of all plant equipment, facilities, utilities, and infrastructure.
• Oversee preventive, predictive, corrective, and reliability-centered maintenance programs.
• Maintain the operational readiness of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, power generation, and facility assets.
• Plan, coordinate, and execute annual maintenance outages and shutdowns.
• Provide maintenance leadership and support on a 24/7 basis as required.

Capital Projects & Financial Management

• Manage maintenance labor, capital expenditures, and departmental budgets to approved targets.
• Develop and implement short-term and long-term capital improvement plans.
• Identify opportunities to improve asset reliability, operational efficiency, and cost performance.
• Lead capital projects from planning through execution and completion.
• Participate in project prioritization and resource allocation activities.

Regulatory Compliance

• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, environmental, and safety regulations.
• Support audits, inspections, and regulatory assessments.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, operational standards, and environmental requirements.

Energy & Utility Management

• Monitor and optimize plant energy generation and consumption.
• Support the efficient operation of steam, electrical, utility, and power generation systems.
• Ensure reliability and availability of utility systems required for manufacturing operations.

Team Leadership & Development

• Recruit, develop, train, and retain salaried and hourly maintenance personnel.
• Establish performance expectations and support employee development.
• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
• Provide leadership and guidance to maintenance supervisors and operators.

Contractor & Vendor Management

• Manage contracted maintenance and engineering service providers.
• Evaluate contractor performance and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with established standards.
• Coordinate with equipment suppliers, engineering consultants, insurance representatives, security providers, and regulatory agencies as required.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with operations, engineering, maintenance, and leadership teams to support production, reliability, and business objectives.
• Collaborate with department leaders, engineers, supervisors, and plant personnel to achieve operational goals.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Experience

• Minimum of 10 years of maintenance, engineering, reliability, or asset management experience within a heavy manufacturing, power generation, pulp and paper, chemical processing, utilities, or other continuous process industry.
• Experience leading maintenance teams in a complex industrial environment.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, utility, and facility systems.
• Experience with steam generation, electrical distribution, hydro generation, and power generation systems.
• Experience managing maintenance budgets, capital expenditures, and asset reliability programs.
• Demonstrated success leading capital projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Experience supervising contractors, engineering service providers, and maintenance vendors.
• Proven ability to ensure regulatory compliance related to safety and environmental requirements.
• Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Experience supporting 24/7 manufacturing or industrial operations.
