What You Will Do:

Pratt and Whitney’s Material Process Engineering (MPE) organization is in need of a 1st shift Maintenance Manager at it’s East Hartford, CT facility that report up through the Rapid Prototype Casting Lab (RPCL) foundry team. Our mission is to develop the technology and processes to manufacture advanced turbine engines. MPE is enabling materials and processes that will increase the capability and improve the durability of jet engine components. Through successful development of these, P&W will deliver engines that are more fuel efficient, lighter weight, and more durable for commercial and military applications. The Maintenance Manager will be supervising with a team in a fast paced and dynamic environment to meet customer delivery, quality, and cost requirements by planning, organizing, and directing work related projects and initiatives. Responsible for helping keep a safe work environment, lead various CORE improvement projects, capital and preventive maintenance planning and execution, and rapid response to MPE requests for anything to facilitate project movement with respect to the equipment being used, unplanned machine downtime or facilities issues.

This role requires daily interaction with the engineering, machine tool services mechanics, electronic servicers, facilities teams, and other groups.

Responsibilities, but not limited to:

  • Prioritize and assign work orders, set schedule/plan to completed work tickets in SAP
  • Assessment of planned work in each lab to ensure work requested can be completed safely and that the machine and required items are available to complete job
  • Complete post-assessments for breakdowns; ensure quality of repair to prevent repeat failures and reduce maintenance costs year over year, update PMs accordingly
  • Schedule required resources internal / external and be the Contract Coordinator for building
  • Manage inventory levels of consumable items (air/water/oil-filters, oils, coolants, PM items)
  • Complete all PMs in SAP for given year for building
  • Maintain a current mechanic skills matrix for PMs
  • Workforce planning and forecasting
  • Employee hiring, coaching, training, and development
  • Time and Attendance duties
  • Backup supervisor for the rapid prototype casting lab
  • Ensure full compliance of company policies and procedures.
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and interpersonal skills.
  • Hold employees accountable while maintaining a key working relationships.
  • Effective communication of maintenance activities to lab owners
  • Provide reports to management on work order status; drop-ins, open/closed work orders, rolling 3-month scheduled maintenance, service call log, meet with lab owners
  • For new machines: brass tag creation, complete Right-to-Run with EHS, including creating PMs, and follow facilities passport process for trades.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent experience and minimum of 7 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced degree with 5 years of related experience.
  • Production, operations or manufacturing experience.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an Industrial Maintenance environment
  • Troubleshooting and mechanical aptitude.
  • Effective communication of your activities with everyone.
  • Mech/Mfg/Industrial Engineering experience in the aerospace/defense industry
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio, Power BI and Access) and/or SAP.

Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
