Job Overview:

JOB SUMMARY: 

 

Manages repair and maintenance of manufacturing facilities and equipment including Installing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical and electronic equipment, tools, and instruments. Installing, repairing, and maintaining manufacturing facilities infrastructure. Making/machining replacement tools and parts for manufacturing operations. Planning and prioritizing work orders and scheduling overall repair and maintenance activities to minimize production downtime and disruptions.

Coordinates and supervises the daily activities of a professional or a large and/or moderately complex support/operations team up to Career Professional. May include subordinate work leaders. Decisions are guided by policies, procedures, and business plan; receives guidance and oversight from manager. Requires thorough understanding and application of procedures and concepts within own discipline and basic knowledge of other disciplines.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Has formal supervisor responsibilities; sets priorities for, and coaches team members to meet objectives.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Maintenance

 

  • Maintenance Manager must be able to work weekends and is on call 24/7.

 

  • Evaluates workforce, determines qualifications and training needs of personnel.  

 

  • Establishes training criteria/ guidelines, budgets, and schedules training plan.

 

  • Identifies current and future maintenance requirements by establishing a rapport with management, and production personnel, technicians and other persons in position to understand maintenance requirements.

 

  • Responsible for engineering projects including layout, budget, timeframes, and managing the workforce and/ or contractors.

 

  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing annual maintenance budget with the assistance of the Manufacturing Engineering Manager and Operations Manager, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, spare parts, labor (overtime, call time, travel times, vacations, personal days, etc) and initiating corrective actions.

 

  • Ensures production operations by determining work priorities and scheduling repair, maintenance, and installation of machines, tools, and equipment.

 

  • Responsible for annual maintenance shutdown, including planning, budgeting, and scheduling work and labor to meet timelines for completion.

 

  • Supports product development and improvement by reviewing new product plans, discussing equipment needs and modifications.  He coordinates activities of technicians and workers fabricating or modifying machines, tools, or equipment.

 

  • Provides heat, steam, electric power, gas and air by directing the installation of, modification to, and maintenance activities on utility systems.

 

  • Designs, implements, and modifies preventative maintenance/ inventory programs including spare parts inventory, work orders and safety work orders, by reviewing production, quality control, and maintenance reports and statistics; inspecting operating machines, equipment, and systems for conformance with operational standards.

 

  • Directs maintenance operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.

 

  • Resolves maintenance problems by conferring with management and appropriate personnel.

 

  • Protects employees and visitors by maintaining a safe and clean working environment.

 

  • Completes maintenance operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees as well as follows up on work results.

 

  • Manages outside services and ensure they are complying with Knowlton rules and expectations.

 

  • Overall responsible for equipment, sludge building, buildings, grounds, calibration of equipment, oil/ grease schedule, safety training of maintenance personnel and outside contractors, snow removal, ordering repair materials and inventorying spare parts.

 

  • Is a participating member of weekly production meetings, monthly safety meetings, and monthly staff meetings.

 

 Hazardous Waste

This position may have to collect or transport hazardous waste from the point of accumulation to the point of disposal.  This position will require training in both the awareness level of hazardous waste operations, and the operations level. This training will be conducted at the time of hire, and annually thereafter.  Individuals in this position must be able to comply with site procedures related to hazardous waste and must at all times mitigate the regulatory risk associated with hazardous waste operations.

QUALITY:

Supports, maintains and continually improves Knowlton Technologies, LLC Quality Management System in accordance with requirements of the IATF 16949 International Standard.  Employee has the role and responsibility to follow the work instructions and Current Best Practices that support the KT Value Stream Maps.

  

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and/ or twenty plus years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Relevant certifications such as Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Plant Engineer (CPE) are highly advantageous.
  • Broad knowledge of technical aspects such as electrical and mechanical systems, plumbing, and carpentry.

 

 LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.   Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

 

 REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.  the employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles.   The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock and risk of radiation.

 The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.
