Description

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, organization, and directing the activities of the maintenance group. This role is responsible for directing activities of assigned maintenance personnel and continuously driving improvement of the facility and the production processes. You will utilize resources to achieve results in the area of safety, production, scrap, and quality. This role is responsible for coordinating with plant support staff to complete safety training, quality training, capital forecasting, and the annual budgeting process. You will work closely with Human Resources to ensure the fair and consistent implementation of all plant personnel-related policies.


Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Define and monitor maintenance department’s progress towards department goals.
  • Create effective policies and procedures to ensure manufacturing operates at peak efficiency without compromising product safety or integrity. 
  • Works with other departments to define issues that are preventing optimized manufacturing efficiencies and generates plans to address these issues.
  • Inspects both facilities and process machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.
  • Monitors staff performance and communicates future needs to address concerns.
  • Defines and recommends maintenance objectives in each area of manufacturing. Develops specific short term and long-term plans.
  • Makes capital recommendations for budgeting purposes.
  • Supports the budgeting process and manages the maintenance department to stay within budget limits.
  • Identifies and implements cost savings. Monitors and reports progress.
  • Seeks outside vendors for repairs or projects that cannot be handled in-house. Defines what is needed and secures and evaluates vendor cost estimates. Manages selected vendor and/or project to completion.  
  • Defines necessary required skills for maintenance employees and secures required training both in-house and outside.
  • Assists in troubleshooting of both facilities and process issues to root cause. Defines root cause corrective action and ensures the corrective action is completed and continued. 
  • Develop and manage a work order/preventative maintenance system. 
  • Defines critical spares by analyzing the work order results, preventative maintenance required, or completing failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) on each production line and associated equipment.
  • Supports a 24 hour per day, 7 day per week operation.
  • Ensures that safety procedures are trained and enforced.
  • Keeps the correct parties informed on all abnormal or critical situations.
  • Participates in and supports continuous improvement efforts throughout the plant.
  • Support, train and hold department responsible for compliance with safety rules and regulations.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience 

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, engineering preferred; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong leadership abilities. Management experience in a manufacturing environment required. Total productive management (TPM) and predictive maintenance experience preferred. Analytical and problem-solving skills. Good communication, presentation, and organizational skills.


Language Skills 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


Mathematical Skills 

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Reasoning Ability 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Computer Skills 

Computer competence in Microsoft office suite, maintenance functionality in ERP software, scheduling, time keeping is required.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Valid Michigan Driver’s License with no restrictions.
