World-changing careers, enabled by Johnson Matthey. With more than 200 years history, join us and help to accelerate the transition to net-zero! As a Maintenance Manager, you’ll contribute to JM’s mission as a world leader in sustainable technology, transforming energy and reducing carbon emissions for a cleaner, brighter future.

We are seeking a seasoned maintenance leader with a proactive mindset to drive long-term improvements across site operations. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in maintenance, demonstrate strong ownership, and lead by example with a visible presence on the shop floor. This role involves managing a team, collaborating with contractors, and embedding preventative, cost-effective maintenance practices. With the organization focused on enhancing overall performance, we’re looking for someone ready to lead through change, foster a culture of continuous improvement, and help elevate operational standards over time.

The role:

As a Maintenance Manager, you will help drive our goals by:

  • Lead and manage a maintenance team, fostering a proactive culture focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Develop and implement effective maintenance strategies, including preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all safety regulations and promote a strong safety culture within the maintenance department.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and contractors to optimize equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and improve overall operational performance.
  • Oversee maintenance planning, scheduling, and resource management to ensure efficient execution of work orders and cost control.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions to address equipment failures and support long-term site transformation and performance improvement.

Key skills that will help you succeed in this role:

  • Proven experience leading and managing maintenance teams in a complex, multi-shift industrial environment, ideally within chemical, oil & gas, or pharmaceutical industries.
  • Strong technical background with a degree in electrical or mechanical engineering and CMRP certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement proactive maintenance strategies, including preventive and predictive maintenance, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Excellent leadership and collaboration skills to manage cross-functional teams, contractors, and budget responsibilities while driving safety and operational excellence.

Even if you only match some of the skills, we’d love to hear from you to discuss further!

What we offer:

We offer a competitive compensation and JM Elements benefits package including bonus, excellent pension contributions and 20 days annual leave (varies for shift-based roles). Our JM Elements Benefits programme helps our employees understand and manage the JM benefits, as well as helping you focus on your overall well-being – for you and your family.
