Description
Oversee comprehensive maintenance operations for Smith-Midland of Virginia, ensuring optimal safety standards, operational efficiency, and cost-effective resource management. Provides strategic leadership and technical expertise to support maintenance functions across a major precast concrete manufacturing facility. Executes hands-on equipment repairs, conducts critical system inspections, and implements preventive maintenance programs to maximize operational reliability and minimize downtime.
- Manages daily maintenance operations with a team of 4-5 technicians, handling all facility maintenance work and personnel matters including company policy administration.
- Monitors department performance, implements productivity improvements, and takes corrective action as needed.
- Repairs equipment to quality standards while optimizing cost and reliability.
- Develops and maintains preventive maintenance schedules for all plant and mobile equipment, coordinating with production to minimize downtime.
- Trains equipment operators on proper procedures to prevent equipment abuse and premature wear.
- Maintains records and produces reports for accounting and performance monitoring purposes.
- Ensures highway mobile equipment meets maintenance standards and regulatory compliance through scheduled inspections and proper documentation.
- Maintains a safe work environment by implementing safety policies, conducting equipment inspections, and correcting safety issues to meet OSHA and insurance requirements.
- Upholds housekeeping standards in shop and work areas while assisting production with leak repairs and waste reduction.
- Coordinates energy-saving initiatives and leads continuous improvement programs.
- Manages inventory of materials and spare parts with the purchasing department to minimize equipment downtime.
- Provides budget recommendations for capital expenditures and develops long-term equipment replacement schedules.
- Ensures compliance with environmental permits for air, water, wastewater, and storage tanks including all required testing and reporting.
- Implements continuous improvement and preventative maintenance programs to eliminate defects and improve processes.
Qualifications
Experience
- 5-10 years of hands-on maintenance experience in manufacturing or industrial settings
- 3-5 years of supervisory or leadership experience
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics
- Understanding of manufacturing equipment, production processes, and safety regulations
- Familiarity with maintenance planning, scheduling, and budgeting
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and environmental regulations preferred
Management Skills
- Proven ability to lead and manage maintenance teams
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Additional Requirements
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies
- Computer proficiency, including maintenance software and Microsoft Office
- Strong communication skills for coordinating with production, engineering, and other departments
