Maintenance Manager

Position Objective:

 

Plan, organize, direct and manage factory maintenance activities within a team-based culture. Ensure the safe maintenance, repair or replacement of plant equipment and systems to assure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals and objectives of the Company.

Key Result Areas:

Performance Standards

Planning and Scheduling

  • Manage work order, preventative and predictive maintenance programs and coordinate corresponding work.
  • Assess job material and manpower requirements for the safe and successful execution of work.
  • Delegate maintenance and repair work to the maintenance employees as a function of employee qualifications and site priorities.
  • Assist in spare parts inventory control, materials procurement and invoicing.
  • Communicate with all departments to coordinate maintenance and repair work.

Technical Support

  • Provide troubleshooting, diagnostic and analytical support to plant personnel as needed
  • Ensure safe, reliable & proper utilization & operation of equipment
  • Determine root cause of chronic problems to reduce downtime
  • Find and propose solutions to improving the plant

Asset Utilization and Troubleshooting

  • Review the operation of plant equipment and systems to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner and identify opportunities for improvement. 
  • Evaluate potential solutions and drive these solutions through the proposal, approval, installation and post review processes. 
  • Prepare and execute capital projects, as needed.
  • Develop best practice maintenance procedures.
  • Establish and maintain a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking work orders, spare parts and maintenance history of plant equipment.
  • Initiate and carry out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
  • Track, analyze and improve key maintenance parameters such as asset utilization, maintenance cost, PM compliance, schedule compliance, etc.

  • Institute and oversee maintenance programs that preserve asset life, ensure maximum equipment availability and capacity, and that do not interfere with production
  • Institute and oversee a system to ensure that all vital records (e.g., operating manuals and service records) on plant equipment are complete and up-to-date
  • Identify processes/equipment that are under-performing or limiting production, perform root cause analyses and implement appropriate preventive/corrective actions to maximize equipment availability and efficiency
  • Develop best practice maintenance procedures.
  • Demonstrate year over year improvements in through-put, equipment availability and downtime
  • Complete repairs and improvements in a cost effective manner
  • Spend within budgetary constraints
  • Procure parts & services at the best quality and price
  • Identify critical spares and maintain appropriate levels of parts inventory
  • Utilize effective asset maintenance processes such as PM schedules and completion tracking, corrective work orders, root cause failure analysis, and overhauls to maximize equipment performance
  • Delegate maintenance and repair work to the maintenance employees as a function of employee qualifications and site priorities.
  • Communicate with all departments to coordinate maintenance and repair work.

Human Resource Management

  • Comply with HR policies and procedures.
  • Comply with relevant employment laws.
  • Prepare/approve employees’ time & attendance, reviews and pay increases.
  • Develop Maintenance team skill sets through internal/external training opportunities.
  • Direct, maintain and enforce safety program for the maintenance department.  Review safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance technicians.

Health and Safety

 

  • Ensure that standards for quality and food safety are observed
  • Direct, maintain and enforce safety program for the maintenance department. 
  • Ensure that employees are working in safe conditions and have all the safety equipment needed to accomplish their duties
  • Complete the document requested in HS (supervisor investigations, Flash Report, etc.)
  • Encourage safe behaviors and promote working in a safe environment

Environmental

 

  • Reduce waste to a minimum
  • Respect environmental regulation
  • Report all waste to environmental lead

Other

  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001/22000, HACCP and GMP management programs.
  • Continue to develop best practice maintenance procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


A COMBINATION OF THE LISTED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE IS PREFERRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical, electrical, mechanical or industrial engineering.
  • Five (5) to Seven (7) years’ supervisory experience.
  • Five (5) to Seven (7) years’ experience in production or maintenance in a manufacturing plant.
  • Good working knowledge of Asset Care programs including autonomous maintenance concepts.
  • Knowledge of GMP.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good working knowledge of computer spreadsheet, word processing and computerized maintenance management system software.
  • Understanding of food hygiene procedures and food safety requirements.
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience with a successful continuous improvement program.
  • Automation project experience.
  • Experience working in a 24/7 processing facility

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; and talk, hear and smell. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.  The employee frequently works in high places and is infrequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
