Job Overview:

Summary: Through this internship, learn many of the duties of a Maintenance Manager.  Assist Maintenance Management Team in the function, assessment, documentation, auditing, organization, communication, planning, and improvement of the Maintenance Team by performing the following duties. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Updates Martins Maintenance SOPs.  Duties include observation and time study of activity, updating written SOP documents, reviewing updated SOPs with various maintenance team members and leaders, updating web based documents. 
  • Creating forms to be used by technicians to detail work completed.  Creating audit documents to be used by maintenance leaders to perform Maintenance Quality Assessments.
  • Works cooperatively with PLC Technicians in the development of a PLC and plant controls systems upgrade project.  This includes field study with PLC technicians to understand equipment function, gathering of data including locations and counts, preparing upgrade documents with costs and parts timelines, preparing PowerPoint and Word documents for fund allocation.
  • With direction of Maintenance Managers leads vibration analysis initiatives on select equipment.  Duties include verification of sensors and equipment, preparation and analysis of reports and recommendations, investigation into Maintenance Team improvement using vibration analysis.
  • Assist Maintenance Managers and Maintenance Planner with project management duties including but not limited to soliciting quotes, reviewing proposals, preparing project approval packets, scheduling, project oversight, punch list of completed work, communication to team members.
  • Acquires knowledge of Martins equipment and processes through working with maintenance team members on the production floor.
  • Assist inventory team with parts.  Duties include organization of parts room, moving parts, counting parts, preparing documents and spreadsheets detailing parts areas, assistance coordinating remote parts areas organization and documentation.
  • Provides Maintenance Managers with various reports including but not limited to maintenance KPI reports, production scrap reports, labor reports, equipment failure analysis reports, etc.
  • Conducts routine system audits of timekeeping system, inventory management system, and maintenance management software.
  • Observe and sit in on other Maintenance Manager duties to improve understanding of Maintenance Manager Role including but not limited to: monitoring technician work, monitoring maintenance shops, communicating expectations to maintenance team, manage KPI’s, attend maintenance management meetings, works to assist other maintenance team members.
  • Uses information gathered through failure analysis to recommend predictive type maintenance.
  • Reports and adheres to safety, food safety, quality, and Good Manufacturing Practices regulations.
  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  • In conjunction with a Martins skilled Maintenance Technician, assists with maintenance duties including but not limited to: dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts, lubricates and cleans parts, performs preventative maintenance, starts a device to test their performance, follows safety procedures and regulations.
  • Works flexible hours to meet project/task deadlines.
  • Communicates with Maintenance Manager, Assistant Manager, and Maintenance Supervisor regarding task assignment, task completion and deviation from task schedule.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of work area.

Education and/or Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • Completed or currently enrolled in an Engineering or Maintenance collegiate or other post high school secondary educational program.

      Computer Skills:   

  • Working Knowledge of design software.
  • Working Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook software required.                

         Language Skills:    

          Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

         Mathematical Skills:  

          Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

         Reasoning Ability:  

         Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
