Maintenance Helper – Great Plains Trucking – Salina, KS

 

Great Plains Trucking, a division of Great Plains Manufacturing, is currently seeking a Maintenance Helper at the Great Plains Trucking facility in Salina, KS. 

 

This position works Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., plus a rotating on-call schedule and occasional overtime as required.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:    

  • Help diesel mechanics to maintain and repair commercial motor vehicles and equipment.
  • Obtain parts from stock and assist mechanics with other duties.
  • Clean, lubricate, and adjust commercial motor vehicles, equipment, instruments, tools, work areas, and other objects, using hand tools, power tools, and cleaning equipment. 
  • Assemble and disassemble equipment, components, and other parts, using hand tools and power tools.
  • Observe equipment to verify efficient and safe operation.
  • Other duties may be assigned that require other qualifications, physical demands, and/or work environment.

 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must be willing and available to be on call
  • Tractor and trailer repair experience preferred
  • Qualified to service, troubleshoot and diagnose Cat, Cummins and Detroit engines
  • Ability to obtain CDL license
  • Must have complete set of hand tools, impacts, etc.
  • Welding skills helpful
