Maintenance Electrician

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Electrician to join our industrial maintenance team. This position is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, repairing, and improving electrical and control systems throughout a heavy industrial manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience troubleshooting 24–480V electrical systems, along with a solid background in industrial controls, motor controls, PLCs, instrumentation, and automated equipment. This role requires someone who can diagnose electrical problems efficiently, read and interpret electrical schematics, and safely return equipment to service with minimal downtime.

Key Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain 24–480V electrical systems, including AC/DC circuits, motors, starters, contactors, relays, transformers, disconnects, and control circuits.
• Diagnose electrical and controls-related issues on heavy industrial production equipment.
• Troubleshoot motor control systems, VFDs, soft starters, PLC inputs/outputs, sensors, proximity switches, photo eyes, and other control devices.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, and equipment manuals.
• Use electrical test equipment such as multimeters, megohmmeters, clamp meters, and other diagnostic tools to identify faults.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical and control equipment.
• Troubleshoot PLC-related issues and work with controls personnel to identify and correct equipment faults.
• Install, wire, modify, and repair electrical equipment, control panels, motors, and industrial machinery.
• Assist with electrical installations, equipment upgrades, automation projects, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
• Diagnose and repair equipment during production downtime and respond quickly to emergency maintenance calls.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and document repairs, recurring failures, and corrective actions.
• Follow all applicable electrical, safety, lockout/tagout, and company procedures.
• Work closely with mechanical, controls, engineering, and production teams to resolve equipment issues.
• Identify recurring electrical failures and recommend permanent corrective actions.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Requirements

• 5+ years of industrial electrical maintenance experience, preferably in a heavy manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot 24–480V electrical systems.
• Strong knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems, three-phase power, motor controls, control circuits, and industrial electrical equipment.
• Hands-on experience with PLCs, VFDs, motor starters, relays, sensors, instrumentation, and automated control systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, and control drawings.
• Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose electrical faults systematically.
• Experience using electrical test equipment and safely troubleshooting energized equipment when required.
• Strong understanding of NFPA 70E, electrical safety, and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Ability to work independently and make sound troubleshooting decisions in a fast-paced production environment.
• Ability to work safely at heights, around industrial machinery, and in a heavy industrial environment.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
• High school diploma or GED required; technical school or electrical apprenticeship preferred.
