Position Summary
Perform equipment and building maintenance and repair with emphasis on electrical systems. Works with three phase primary voltages to low voltage control systems meeting NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform all types of building maintenance and repair that is generated from the Facilities Services work order system. Most work will be related to the various electrical systems on campus, from three phase primary voltages to low voltage control systems. Work will be meet NFPA 70 (National Electrical Code) standards
- Interpret drawings, schematics, blueprints and use product manuals to arrive at a solution for service problems
- Prepare lists of materials needed to complete projects
- Participate in maintenance and inspection schedules for campus fire alarm systems, elevators, building automation systems, and back-up generators.
- Provide assistance to the Boiler Operators in case of needed repairs to the Heating Plant boiler system
- Be available to assist other Facilities Services departments such as Grounds, Movers, Heating Plant, Carpenters, Plumbers, etc. as needed
- Manage material inventory and supplies for the electrical shop
- Maintain cleanliness of work area and surrounding areas at all times, including maintenance work vehicle \
- Assist with snow removal
- Be available for scheduled after hours work as well as emergency situations that may arise at any time
- Work in a manner to ensure personal safety and safety towards the campus community. Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma required
- Recognition that maintenance work can happen in a wide variety of spaces. Must perform careful planning, performance, and cleanup of work
- Four years of formal working experience in installation and repair in the following areas: electrical systems
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Mobility: ability to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps; not be afraid of heights; walk or stand for extended periods of time
- Lifting: ability to lift and hold 75 pounds, frequently lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 50 pounds
- Dexterity: must have a full range of motion in the upper extremities; manual dexterity to operate equipment and hand tools; ability to work for extended periods with arms above head
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Be available for scheduled shift work, M-F 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Overtime may be required
- Inside and outside buildings-working in temperatures that range from heated and cooled rooms to outside temperatures of hot and cold
- Some areas may be poorly ventilated or heavily congested
- Exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals, noise, dust and fumes
- Required to work in restricted places which may require stooping, bending and kneeling
- Buildings and grounds are smoke free
