Job Overview:

Maintenance Electrician - Union Based

Location: Hammond, IN

Schedule:

  • Rotating 3-2-2-3 schedule
  • 12-hour shifts- Days: 5:00 AM – 5:30 PM
    • Nights: 5:00 PM – 5:30 AM

Compensation:

  • Starting at $32.70/hour

Position Overview

The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and performing preventive maintenance on electrical and automation systems throughout a heavy industrial manufacturing facility. This role supports critical production equipment across the furnace, hot mill, cold mill, annealing, and finishing operations while helping maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair 480V–13.8kV electrical distribution systems, including switchgear, transformers, busbars, MCCs, and power distribution equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair motors, motor starters, contactors, relays, VFDs, servo systems, encoders, and industrial control circuits.
  • Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment, HMIs, and industrial automation systems.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance, including thermal imaging, inspections, calibration, and CMMS documentation.
  • Troubleshoot furnace electrical systems, burner controls, ignition systems, and high-temperature instrumentation.
  • Assist with equipment installations, machine commissioning, electrical upgrades, and control system improvements.
  • Maintain industrial lighting, UPS systems, emergency shutdown systems, and support energy efficiency initiatives.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, blueprints, and P&IDs.
  • Follow all LOTO procedures, NFPA 70E standards, arc flash requirements, and plant safety policies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of industrial electrical maintenance experience

  • Electrician Certification or Associate's degree in Industrial Electrical Technology preferred.

  • Experience with:- 480V 3-phase electrical systems

    • High-voltage power distribution (up to 13.8kV)
    • PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, and SCADA systems
    • Motors, controls, instrumentation, and industrial automation
  • Ability to troubleshoot using electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.

  • Pneumatic and hydraulic troubleshooting experience is a plus.

Work Environment

  • Heavy industrial manufacturing facility

  • Work at heights, in confined spaces, and around rotating machinery
  • Rotating shifts, weekends, and occasional emergency call-ins
