The Ionbond - Chicago Coating Center is seeking an experienced Maintenance Assistant to join the team. We are looking for a self-starting, highly motivated individual interested in working in an industrial manufacturing environment. A skilled person who enjoys a variety of technical challenges will excel in this role. As a Maintenance Assistant, your primary responsibility will be the preventive maintenance of production equipment along with the repair and rebuild of equipment when necessary. Duties cover a broad range of areas including electrical, mechanical, and general maintenance. This position reports to the Plant Manager of the facility.

What defines this job?

  • Utilizes the prescribed methods and process paths required to effectively operate coating machine functions.
  • Receive directions from supervisors and maintenance techs regarding job assignments and instructions to effectively perform coating functions and maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in specific training and instructional programs intended to improve job skills and understanding of the position.
  • Under the direction of plant management and/or maintenance technician, perform preventative, regular, and emergency maintenance on all equipment to ensure the machines are in safe, clean, and working condition to operate in full capacity.
  • Effectively communicate to the supervisor of any job-related problems, troubleshooting issues, and other information related to work activity.
  • Work closely with supervision to develop continuous improvement and 5S Program in the facility for the day-to-day responsibilities by maintaining a safe and neat work area established by corporate safety regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What do we ask?

Previous maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is preferred, with a minimum of 2 years of hands-on maintenance experience. Candidates should possess mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, with experience diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on manufacturing equipment and facility systems. Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs, welding, motor controls, and industrial electrical systems is a plus. We are seeking candidate with strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment. The ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, blueprints, and work instructions in English is required. Good manual dexterity and the ability to safely use maintenance tools, power tools, and testing equipment are essential. This position operates Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds throughout an 8-hour shift. Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required based on production and maintenance needs. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and successfully complete a pre-employment criminal background check and physical screening.
