Job Overview:

 

SUMMARY

Machine operator in the production machine shop.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Works safely and always maintains a safe work environment.
  • Takes responsibility for quality of work by performing all duties thoroughly and effectively with conformance to standards, quality systems, and established processes.
  • Produces production parts utilizing various manual and CNC machining equipment.
  • Maintains specifications by observing machine processes; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting and replacing worn tools.
  • Performs basic tool offsets, work offsets, and process troubleshooting.
  • Evaluates scrap to verify yields.
  • Maintains machines, equipment, and performs preventative maintenance activities as directed.
  • Assists in the setup and adjustments of machines or methods when directed.
  • Performs material handling and other entry-level preparatory processes as assigned.
  • Contributes to the housekeeping and 5s activity in the area.
  • Contributes to continuous improvement through employee involvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED equivalent required.   2-4 years of Machine Shop experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.   Must be able to read and understand English.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.   Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to read and interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to read and interpret blueprints to determine proper parts tolerance.

The employee is occasionally required to sit.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
