The Machinist Mechanic role will focus on the set up, adjustment, and maintenance of assigned equipment with responsibility for production and quality on this equipment, and manufacture machine parts.

 

Essential Functions

  1. Analyzes mechanical and operational problems on assigned equipment and plans for and takes corrective action.  Makes necessary corrections and running adjustments to maintain maximum production and quality.
  2. Reads and interprets blueprints to plan setup and operation of all types of machine shop machine tools.
  3. Tests equipment to check operation.  Clears jams and sets aside product for inspection and rework.  Tries out equipment after repairs, changeovers or extended downtime.
  4. Makes preventive maintenance check and inspection of assigned equipment, reports findings to supervisor and takes appropriate action.
  5. Directs line operators in details of standard operating procedures.
  6. Instructs and directs any maintenance trainees assigned.
  7. Uses full range of precision measuring and gauging tools to perform inspection before start of job.  
  8. Performs repair, rebuilding or overhaul work of manufacturing or service equipment from blueprints, company manufacturing manuals, written or verbal instructions.  
  9. Starts up and shuts down equipment in line with company safety procedures for equipment under power and OSHA requirements.
  10. Plans setup and operates typical machine shop machine tools, producing parts to tolerances and company specifications. Uses typical machinist's hand tools.
  11. Sets up and tests production equipment under power, testing for mechanical difficulties, tracing to their sources and correcting problem.
  12. May operate equipment during relief periods.
  13. Performs product examination and rework when line is down due to causes beyond mechanic's control.
  14. Keep work area clean and organized.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

  1. Ability to work independently.
  2. Ability to use hand tools and trades type tools. 
  3. High attention to detail and care is required to prevent damage to complex machine tools. 
  4. Ability to work in a team environment. 
  5. Ability to follow safety and quality procedures.

Required Qualifications

  1. 2 Year formal machine shop training, or 5 years’ experience running multiple pieces of equipment in lieu of formal training.
  2. Proactive, self-motivated, and detail-oriented, with a strong desire to learn and contribute to the success of the organization.

This is a full-time position, on-site at the manufacturing facility. The hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, 40 hours per week. 


Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel

This job operates in a warehouse/manufacturing setting where various tools and equipment are used. This role must be able to stand, bend, stoop, kneel and exhibit good visual acuity to perform daily tasks. This position must be able to lift 50 pounds at times. Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
