FM Industries has locations in Fremont and Livermore, CA with multiple shift opportunities!

Days: Mon-Fri 6:00am to 2:30pm 

SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

  • Responsible for utilizing shop paper procedure including updates, signatures and stamps, counting quantities, labeling and non-conformance related activities
  • Manual Mill and Manual Lathe(preferred) setup. Is able to set-up and run the most complex proven or new parts with little to no supervision
  • Will assist in developing new processes.
  • Read blueprints, tooling instructions, and standard charts for specifications
  • Program, set up, and run all facets of work assigned
  • Develop fixtures as needed
  • Provide technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to operators and lower level machinists as required
  • Ensure an accurate router accompanies all work orders
  • Ensure all tooling and fixtures used in the manual area are adequately designed, cost effective and procured in such a manner which supports customer deliveries and company budgets
  • Inspect and measure parts to maintain statistical process controls charts
  • Assist the Lead person as needed
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls as needed
  • Confer with Team Leaders and Programmers regarding drawings, sketches, and design data of a part to determine dimension and configuration of tool path(s)
  • Monitor and replace cutting tools as needed in machines and equipment
  • Test the operation of tool to ensure proper function and performance
  • Ensure company procedures and “best machine practices” are being followed and are in place at all times
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned
  • Assist CNC department with complex fixture building
  • Assist engineering as required to facilitate cost reduction
  • Comply with applicable environmental, health and safety laws and regulations, Company policy and accepted safe work practices

 

RECOMMENDED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • Completion of Machine Tool Technology program preferred.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Associate’s degree in Machine Tool Technology strongly preferred
  • 10+ years work experience
  • Between three and five years of trade school, vocational education, or four year formal apprenticeship strongly preferred
  • Extensive understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of blueprint reading, GD & T
  • Extensive knowledge of accepted inspection practices
  • Familiarity with shop math thru trigonometry
  • Experience running conversational equipped mills/lathes such as EZ-Trak, Proto-Trak, Anilam, etc.
  • Extensive troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints to ensure accuracy in part making
  • Ability to speak basic English language
  • Ability to run lathes and mills.
  • Advanced ability to grind and modify tools
  • Knowledge of Shop safety practices and use of PPE
  • EDM machining experience a plus

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS WHILE PERFORMING THE JOB:

  • Visual acuity: near acuity and accommodation are required for reading machine dial gauges, blueprints, and precision measuring instruments used in the inspection of parts
  • Hearing ability: ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, push, reach overhead, and bend to the floor
  • Frequently required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB:

  • High noise levels from operating machines
  • Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts
  • Breathing fumes, dust, and mist
  • Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids
