Job Overview:

About the Role

The Machinist 3 is our advanced machinist position, responsible for setting up, operating, and optimizing multi axis CNC machining centers and CNC lathes to produce high precision paint robot components. This role works with full independence on complex jobs, mentors junior machinists, and partners with CNC programmers to refine processes and drive continuous improvement.

This position is a direct precursor to the Manufacturing Engineer / CNC Programmer role.

What You'll Do

  • Independently set up and operate multi axis CNC machining centers and CNC lathes, including FANUC ROBODRILLs, producing complex parts to print using Mastercam programs. Write simple machine code as needed.
  • Analyze and optimize machining processes to improve cycle times, reduce scrap, and ensure repeatability while holding print requirements
  • Diagnose and resolve complex machining issues such as tool path and surface finish problems, working with CNC programmers to adjust Mastercam programs
  • Conduct advanced inspections using precision measuring tools and CMM, and lead FAI and FPI processes for assigned parts
  • Design and implement basic custom tooling and workholding solutions to improve part stability and machining efficiency
  • Assist with programming and validating new CNC equipment and integrating it into production
  • Develop and maintain setup sheets, work instructions, and inspection logs in metric units with full traceability
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to increase process capability (CPK/PPK) and reduce cost
  • Mentor Machinist 1 and 2 staff on advanced CNC techniques, Mastercam programming, and FANUC controls

What We're Looking For

Required

  • Six to eight years of CNC machining experience, with at least three years on multi axis CNC machining centers or CNC lathes in a precision manufacturing environment
  • Basic proficiency in Mastercam, enough to make program adjustments
  • Experience with FANUC controls
  • Advanced print reading and interpretation
  • Advanced knowledge of QA supplied measuring equipment

Preferred

  • Experience machining multiple materials including plastic, stainless steel, brass, and aluminum, with an understanding of how each behaves
  • Advanced understanding of metric based manufacturing processes and documentation, including setup sheets and inspection protocols

Optional

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Extensive hands-on experience may substitute for formal education.

You should be proficient in:

  • CNC Machine Installation
  • CNC Machine Setup & Changeover
