Job Overview:

2nd shift Machinist

 

JOB SUMMARY  
Work as a team member in the Machining department to provide prompt and efficient products and services to both internal and external customers by meeting requested deadlines with high quality results utilizing the individual’s skill and ability.  
   
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  
  1. Utilize measuring equipment such as mics, calipers, bore gages, etc. to confirm parts and or components meet print specifications to tolerances of +/-0.01mm.
  2. Efficiently operate all conventional manual machining equipment such as mills, lathes, surfaces grinders, cylinder grinders, drill press, etc. to modify, make, or repair parts when needed to +/- 0.01mm and select appropriate tooling and setups to achieve acceptable results.
  3. Analyze, modify and optimize repeat jobs for maximum efficiency.
  4. Effectively apply the PDCA process to identify potential process improvements
  5. Perform proper repair methods including machining, hand working, and assembly of tooling components and perishable items to restore to an acceptable quality level.   
  6. Perform PM procedures on departmental equipment as needed.
  7. Accurately complete and document Annual Machine Inspection Reports. 
  8. Participate in company and departmental activity for improvement of safety, quality, and efficiency. 
  9. Work with individual drawings as well as complex assembly prints to make, confirm, and evaluate the condition of manufactured parts as needed.
  10. Perform basic welding for urgent repair if applicable.
  11. Process parts through in-house heat treatment if applicable.
  12. Must support urgent work requests when no supervision is present. This may include routing the work as well as completing the work on the appropriate equipment. 
  13. May be required to make appropriate material substitutions when specified materials are not available for urgent work.
  14. Record all time on jobs and track picked tooling and material to ensure data accuracy.

 

 
QUALIFICATIONS  

High School Diploma or GED

 

Completion of an Apprenticeship Program to earn Journeyman Machinist status or a minimum of two years’ experience as a Machinist.

 
   

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications listed.

 

 
Education  
  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Trade certifications or Journeyman’s status preferred
  • CAD/CAM computer software skills preferred

 

 

 
Work Experience  
  • 2 or more years of relevant experience required

 

 

 

 

 
SKILLS AND ABILITIES  
   
  • Ability to comprehend written and verbal instruction and display a high aptitude in blue print reading, math, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to prioritize work when necessary to best support Production in the most efficient and effective manner.
  • Qualified to operate a PIV and crane.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision or direction and make sound, experience based decisions. 
  • Ability to determine the necessary machining requirements needed to restore or make jigs, parts, or tooling upon break down or failure.
  • Knowledge of industrial safety practices and procedures.
  • Display behavior which exhibits a positive attitude and willingness to accept change and communicate with leadership and coworkers effectively as needed.
