Position Summary

The Lay-Up and Glue Assembly Worker is responsible for preparing, positioning, bonding, and assembling materials and components used in the manufacturing of window and door products.

This position requires the proper application of adhesives, sealants, and bonding materials while ensuring that all components are correctly aligned, securely bonded, and inspected for quality. The employee must follow production specifications, safety procedures, and established curing requirements throughout the assembly process.

The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and capable of performing repetitive production duties in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review production schedules, work orders, drawings, and assembly instructions.

  • Gather and prepare the required window and door components for production.

  • Inspect materials for damage, defects, contamination, or incorrect specifications before assembly.

  • Clean and prepare surfaces before applying adhesives, sealants, or bonding materials.

  • Measure, mix, and apply approved adhesives according to production and manufacturer specifications.

  • Apply glue, sealant, tape, or other bonding materials evenly and accurately.

  • Position, align, and assemble components according to established measurements and product specifications.

  • Use clamps, presses, rollers, fixtures, and other equipment to secure materials during the bonding and curing process.

  • Follow required curing times before moving or processing assembled components.

  • Remove excess adhesive or sealant and maintain a clean, professional finished appearance.

  • Inspect completed assemblies for gaps, weak bonds, misalignment, surface damage, or other quality defects.

  • Verify measurements, dimensions, alignment, and overall workmanship.

  • Report defective materials, damaged components, equipment problems, or quality concerns to the production supervisor.

  • Label, stage, and safely move completed products to the next production area.

  • Accurately complete work orders, production records, and quality-control documentation.

  • Meet daily production and quality expectations without compromising safety or workmanship.

  • Maintain an organized, clean, and hazard-free workstation.

  • Follow all company safety, attendance, quality, and production policies.

  • Perform additional production and assembly duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience in manufacturing, production, assembly, construction, woodworking, cabinetmaking, glass, windows, or doors is preferred.

  • Experience applying glue, adhesive, sealant, silicone, caulking, or similar bonding materials is preferred.

  • Ability to read and accurately use a tape measure.

  • Ability to understand basic production drawings, work orders, and assembly instructions.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Strong attention to detail and product quality.

  • Ability to recognize defective materials and assembly issues.

  • Ability to safely use hand tools, clamps, rollers, presses, and production equipment.

  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.

  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or alternate shifts based on production needs.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with aluminum window and door manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of adhesive preparation, application, and curing procedures.

  • Experience handling aluminum, glass, wood, vinyl, or related building materials.

  • Basic knowledge of quality-control and inspection procedures.

  • Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining accuracy.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for the majority of the scheduled shift.

  • Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

  • Ability to bend, reach, twist, stoop, kneel, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements.

  • Ability to safely handle large or awkward window and door components with assistance.

  • Ability to maintain proper grip and control while working with tools and production materials.

  • Ability to work around adhesives, sealants, manufacturing equipment, dust, fumes, and production noise.

  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.

Work Environment

This position is performed in a window and door manufacturing facility. Employees may regularly work around moving machinery, production equipment, adhesives, sealants, glass, aluminum, sharp materials, and other manufacturing components.

The work environment may include moderate-to-high noise levels, dust, fumes, and changing temperatures. Employees must follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment, which may include safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, steel-toed footwear, and respiratory protection when applicable.

Safety Responsibilities

  • Follow all company safety procedures and equipment-operating requirements.

  • Review and follow applicable Safety Data Sheets when handling adhesives, solvents, sealants, or chemicals.

  • Wear all required personal protective equipment.

  • Immediately report unsafe conditions, spills, damaged equipment, injuries, and near-miss incidents.

  • Never operate equipment without proper training and authorization.

  • Follow proper lifting, material-handling, and lockout/tagout procedures when applicable.
