Plant Overview
Shafter is a city in Kern County, California, United States. It is adjacent to Bakersfield. Historically, much of Shafter's economy has been based on agriculture and ag-related industry. Local crops include almonds, pistachios, cotton, grapes and alfalfa as well as some carrots, potatoes and other vegetables. More recently Shafter has become a hub for a variety of economic endeavors including; manufacturing, logistics, and energy. There are two manufacturing plants in Shafter across the street from each other, Mat and Shingle. We are proud to work for one of the largest manufacturing companies in America!
Job Summary
We are looking for a Machinist who is skilled at operating lathes, mills, drill presses, saws, and ancillary machines. The candidate should have a thorough understanding of the tooling required for machining operations such as for turning, tapering, hole making, milling, and threading. The candidate must be competent at machine setup, operation, and maintenance. The candidate will use machine tools for the precision manufacturing of components and complex equipment.
This is a Monday - Friday, First Shift position with overtime as needed!
Essential Duties
Fabrication of machine components using mills, lathes, drill presses, and other precision equipment
Turning of rolls and shafts on large swing lathes
Programming of CNC mills and lathes; selection of the optimal tooling, feed rates, and paths to minimize manufacturing costs and ensure quality
Machine setup, operation, and maintenance; upkeep of the work area in a clean and safe order
Read and interpret technical drawings, data sheets, and specifications
Use of calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, gauges, and other instruments for precise measurements
Handling of heavy, large, or awkward parts manually or with cranes
Fitting and assembly of machined parts into equipment
Procurement and inventory of bits, drills, tools, and consumable supplies
Enter raw material consumption, machine utilization, and labor in the CMMS/ERP software
Perform other duties as assigned
Under This Roof, We Require:
H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
3 years experience operating CNC mills and lathes
Experience using CAM and CAD software, preferably Autodesk products
Good communication and collaboration skills
Willing to work overtime as needed
Under This Roof, We Value:
Associate’s Degree (AA) in Machining Technology or comparable degree from an accredited college is preferred
A Machining Technology Certificate will be considered with relevant experience
Experience with Google G Suite desired Preferred
Physical Demands
Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry typing and proofreading
Must be able to climb ladders and/or stairs and walk on open grating on elevated surfaces

Occasionally operate business machines
Regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds
