Pay & Schedule of a Machinist

  • $25–$30/hr (based on experience)
  • Monday–Friday, 6:00am–2:30pm
  • Occasional overtime until 4:30pm and some Saturdays

What You’ll Do as a Machinist

  • Set up, program, and operate CNC mills, lathes and grinders
  • Use facing heads, rotary tables, and precision tooling to machine custom parts to exact tolerances
  • Read blueprints, GD&T and work instructions, and perform shop math with confidence
  • Measure using micrometers, calipers, dials, and gauges
  • Inspect finished parts and document results to ensure top-notch quality
  • Work closely with welders, fabricators, and engineers to fine-tune designs and solve challenges
  • Keep your workspace clean, organized, and running smoothly
  • Align and secure fixtures using hoists, clamps, and micrometer-level accuracy
  • Safely operate overhead cranes and material-handling equipment

Requirements to Be a Successful Machinist

  • 3–5+ years of recent CNC machining and programming experience preferred
  • Solid understanding of blueprints
  • Experience with the following software preferred: Solid Model, Mastercam, and SolidWorks
  • Strong troubleshooting and machine maintenance skills
  • Mastercam program familiarity or certification highly preferred
  • Able to lift 50+ lbs regularly
  • Experience with hydraulic components or heavy fabrication a plus
  • Overhead crane experience preferred
  • Comfortable measuring and working in metric units
