Job Summary

The Machinist #3 position at Busse/SJI Corp is knowledgeable in all facets of the Drill Room including operation of all pieces of equipment and layout functions, as well as schedules and inventory procedures. This position is knowledgeable in a variety of tasks associated with Shears, 3500 Whitney, Press Brakes, Punch Press, metal rolling or Drill press large and small, milling equipment, laith, and performing layout duties either are required to tap holes, and do metal finishing. You will also be required to run the large and small saw and Mazak milling machine.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Transformation of blueprint information to the workpiece.
  2. Maintenance of tooling stock. Includes coordination and boxing of dull tooling.
  3. Understanding of and ability to utilize a tape measure, square and scribe, calipers, protractor, punch and micrometers.
  4. Knowledgeable in all aspects of jigs and fixtures; justification, ability to fabricate, make setups involving blocking, aligning, and securing pieces, maintain inventory and procedures to record on work orders.
  5. Setup, adjust and operate a drill press to perform the functions of drilling, reaming, tapping, and boring a variety of standard work requiring a degree of skill to maintain dimensional accuracy.
  6. Plan and make setups involving blocking, aligning, and securing of work pieces, jigs, and fixtures.
  7. Selection of proper speeds and feeds, tooling, and operational sequences best suited to materials and nature of operation.
  8. Setup, adjust and operate a milling machine, radial drill, and a lathe.
  9. Proper and accurate completion of labor reports, material issues, Kit lists, scrap reports and material moves.
  10. Performance of cycle counts as prescribed by Production and Inventory Control.
  11. Interpretation of work orders, blueprints, and bills of material.
  12. Inventory and distribution maintaining tooling stock such as: drill bits, countersinks, keyway tooling, milling cutters, taps, pipe taps, spot faces, scribes, and other miscellaneous machine shop equipment.
  13. Operation of drill sharpener for drill bits and layout punches along with basic maintenance and grinding stone rebalancing.
  14. Ability to fabricate new layout and drilling jigs.
  15. Ability to answer machine shop questions with accurate knowledge for all machines.
  16. Knowledgeable regarding production schedules and ability to track releases.
  17. Recording and maintenance of jig fixture records.
  18. Setup and operation of power hack saw, horizontal band saw, and Marvel saw to cut materials to required length or shape.
  19. Routine maintenance of saw/sand equipment. Includes the ability to change blades, maintain coolant levels, remove saw chips and debris, clean Torit dust collecting system and sanding belt replacement and adjustment.
  20. Competent use of hand, bench, and light machine operations to perform deburring, filing, grinding and polishing on sawed and machined parts.

Education and Experience

Associate's degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school. or six months to one-year related experience and/or training. or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Preferred


Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Computer Skills

Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.

Work Schedule/Hours

1st Shift: 4:30am – 2:00pm, M-F

2nd Shift: 2:00pm – 2:00am, M-Th
