JOB SUMMARY (the purpose and general nature of the job):
Machinists make or modify metal parts that are required on the product assembly lines, using machine tools. Machinists follow drawings and rely on experience to produce parts according to specification. Machinists develop solutions to a variety of complex machining requirements.
PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES include the following:
- Set up and run CNC mills, manual jig grinders, and manual surface grinders
- Troubleshoot G-code programs and make offset adjustments on CNC mills
- Apply knowledge of geometry and trigonometry as applicable to machining
- Utilize the machinist handbook and GD&T knowledge to produce complex parts
- Visually inspect components under a microscope to ensure proper surface finishes
- Identify and use proper tools and gauging
- Complete a variety of machining tasks as needed to meet business requirements
- Work safely at all times
- Other duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: Minimal requirements for education, knowledge and experience:
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent
- Machining on-the-job experience and/or certification from appropriate vocational school
- Demonstrates ability to read and understand blueprints including GD&T
- Demonstrates understanding of machining applications as they pertain to different materials
- Ability to follow basic verbal and/or written instructions
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Flexibility and multi-tasking capability with regards to running multiple pieces of equipment, sometimes simultaneously.
- Ability to work in a team environment, which includes communicating effectively with team members and support staff, being self-motivated, accepting responsibility for one’s own work, and actively participating as a team member in a proactive manner
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: This position requires the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities in the following environment:
- The work schedule generally consists of 40 hours per week, which may include weekends.
