Job Summary
General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.
This position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a small or a section of a major machining
and/or sheet metal department. Plans and directs subordinates to achieve assignments using established guidelines, procedures and policies. Directs the activities of the group to ensure smooth flow of work and that production schedules are met. With management approval, modifies operational procedures. Maintains up to date accurate documentation and reports to reflect machine shop activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:- Supervises Machinists, Fabricators and/or Technicians through all phases of production in accordance with established schedules.
- Offers guidance and coaching to manufacturing personnel.
- Assists in designing and building tooling needed for the production process.
- Manages and directs the activities of the machining and sheet metal function and other areas as assigned.
- Reviews engineering drawings and production planning for conformance in all mechanical manufacturing
- departments.
- Applies knowledge of production planning, scheduling of workload, tooling requirements and machine
- maintenance to ensure a smooth flow of work through the departments.
- Evaluates and determines staffing requirements and technical capabilities of personnel within the function,
- and participates in the hiring, training and evaluation of staff.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever
- business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
- Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications
- Typically requires an associate's degree and six or more years of progressive professional experience in a related technical field. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
- Must demonstrate a working knowledge and understanding of machine shop principles, concepts, regulations and practices; and, leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines and milestones.
- Must posses:
- the ability to resolve routine issues;
- verbal and written communication skills to accurately document and report findings;
- interpersonal skills to effectively interface with all levels of employees, including providing direction to and
- scheduling work of assigned staff;
- the ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information; and,
- good computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and lead in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
