Position Overview

ZenTech Consulting is seeking an experienced Machine Operator with a background in large-scale steel manufacturing and industrial machinery. This position is ideal for a skilled operator who is comfortable working with heavy steel materials, operating large production equipment, reading cut sheets, maintaining material traceability, and troubleshooting mechanical issues.

The successful candidate will be able to operate machinery independently while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, productivity, and accurate material handling.

Candidates with experience in structural steel, fabrication, steel manufacturing, CNC equipment, robotic machinery, or other heavy industrial manufacturing environments are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate large industrial machines used in the processing and manufacturing of steel.
  • Operate multiple machines independently with minimal supervision.
  • Read and understand cut sheets, work orders, production documentation, and material specifications.
  • Ensure proper material identification and traceability throughout the production process.
  • Safely load, position, process, and move large steel materials.
  • Perform routine machine adjustments and basic mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Monitor equipment operation and identify issues that may affect production, safety, or quality.
  • Work closely with fitters, welders, helpers, supervisors, and other production personnel.
  • Maintain accurate production and material records.
  • Inspect finished work for accuracy and quality.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and OSHA-related requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Assist with training or directing less-experienced machine operators and helpers as needed.

Equipment & Experience

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating large steel manufacturing or fabrication equipment.

Experience with any of the following is highly desirable:

  • CNC machinery
  • Large-format steel processing equipment
  • Robotic manufacturing equipment
  • Steel cutting and processing machinery
  • Plasma or oxy-fuel cutting equipment
  • Drilling or beam processing equipment
  • Sawing equipment
  • Plate processing equipment
  • Material handling equipment
  • Overhead cranes
  • Forklifts
  • Automated or semi-automated production equipment

Programming experience and mechanical troubleshooting skills are a strong plus.

Machine Operator – Class A

Candidates who can independently operate multiple machines and demonstrate advanced technical capabilities may qualify for the Class A level.

Class A operators should have experience with:

  • Operating multiple pieces of equipment independently - Punch Press, Roll Table, CNC Machines, Burn Table
  • Reading and interpreting cut sheets and production documentation
  • Material identification and traceability
  • CNC equipment and/or programming
  • Robotic equipment
  • Mechanical troubleshooting
  • Heavy steel material handling
  • Maintaining production quality and efficiency with limited supervision

Current Class A Pay Range: $21–$26/hour

You should be proficient in:

  • Heavy Material Handling
  • Metal Stamping & Forming (Progressive Die)
  • Blueprint Reading
