The Machine Builder will support the assembly of custom industrial automated equipment used in roofing applications. This role is responsible for building machines and subassemblies to precise engineering specifications while meeting production timelines and quality standards. The position requires hands-on mechanical assembly experience and flexibility to work extended hours in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Read and interpret detailed mechanical and engineering drawings
Assemble industrial automated machines and subassemblies using hand and power tools
Build, align, and install components including:
Frame assemblies
Drive mechanisms, motors, and shafts
Drums, rolls, and bearings
Pneumatic and hydraulic systems
Sensors, brackets, and guarding
Perform operational testing, final adjustments, and verification to ensure machines meet tolerance, finish, and performance requirements
Safely move parts and equipment using forklifts and cranes
Assist with shipping and receiving of machines
Perform daily preventative maintenance on assembly tools and equipment
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
Review and apply safety manuals, operating procedures, and work instructions
Provide recommendations for efficiency and process improvements
Perform other duties as assigned by management
High school diploma or GED required
Minimum 3 years of experience in machine building or industrial automation assembly
Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical and engineering drawings
Hands-on experience assembling industrial automated machinery
Proficiency with hand tools and precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, micrometers, etc.)
Experience with crane rigging (required)
Forklift operation experience (certification preferred)
Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Office, and ERP systems
Strong communication skills and attention to detail
Associate degree, technical degree, or trade school certification
5+ years of machine building or industrial automation experience
Experience as a maintenance technician or service technician
Experience in custom, high-mix machinery environments
Ability to stand for extended periods and walk frequently throughout the shift
Ability to lift up to 100 lbs occasionally
Capable of working in a physically demanding manufacturing environment
Standard shift: 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Ideal candidates are open to extended hours such as 5:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Willingness to work significant overtime, including half-day Saturdays, is strongly preferred
