Description
Principal Objective of Position:
The Welder joins metal parts and fills seams and holes of metal components. They follow sketches and specifications, inspect equipment and structures, and follow and maintain knowledge of safety protocol.
Essential Functions:

- Uses electricity and torches to produce heat and solder together components made from steel, titanium, copper, and other metals
- Consults blueprints and sketches to execute jobs and tasks to specification
- Assesses equipment, structures, materials, and job specifications for appropriate welding positions and methods
- Monitors equipment for appropriate usage and temperature
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of universal standards and specifications to meet building codes and legal requirements
- Develops working knowledge of dozens of methods used for welding a variety of materials and components
- Operates specialized machinery for industrial welding or supervises robots that do the same
- Trims metal components using heat, fire, and electricity
- Takes apart and disposes of large metal objects like automobiles, ships, and other structures
- Monitors work environment for hazards and maintains healthy ventilation levels to avoid particle or gas inhalation
- Follows safety protocol, including wearing heat-resistant gloves, protective masks, and safety shoes

Education and Experience Required:
- 1-2 years related experience and/or training
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Must understand different types of material
- Must have the ability to perform tasks while following safety protocol
- Must have good observations skills
- Must have attention to detail
- Recognition of positional dangers and fire explosives
- The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong
- Must have basic skill set to safely and effectively operate all welding tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent, preferred
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
