Position Summary
The Logistics Coordinator at plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of logistics, optimizing resources, and enhancing safety standards within the construction and plant-holding yard. Reporting directly to the Warehouse Manager, this role involves meticulous oversight of transportation, asset utilization, and continuous improvement initiatives. The person in this role effectively communicates with the drivers, Production Coordinators and customers to ensure on time deliveries using efficient routing so we can meet the needs of our customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Constantly monitors route drivers to ensure driver is on schedule.
- Organizes load deliveries and makes decisions on effective use of vehicles and skill of drivers.
- Collaborates with drivers to ensure safe practices and load securement through reporting, and assists with ensure safety inspections are done on all equipment daily.
- Ensures that safety is top priority with pre-trip inspections, report repairs as needed and preventive maintenance on the fleet.
- In partnership with Warehouse Supervisor and Drivers, ensures accurate, up-to-date records on trip sheets, vehicle maintenance, fuel purchases, incident reports, accident reports, vehicle condition reports and other records are maintained.
- Follows load slip process and maintains appropriate records and paperwork.
- Organizes, maintains, tracks and repairs equipment and trucks in winter.
- Communicates effectively with direct supervisor, drivers, coworkers, production coordinators, customers and office staff; contributing to a positive and team-oriented work environment.
- Assists drivers in loading and unloading trucks.
- May perform minor maintenance tasks on vehicle(s) or equipment as needed.
- Responsible for updating time system for job tracking and pulling orders.
- Builds relationships with customers and employees to ensure continued operational improvements.
- Keep up on P.O.'s (Purchase Orders) working with purchasing department.
- Reorders product as needed in coordination with the Warehouse Manager.
- Assists with monitoring inventory and restocking of bulk products in yard.
- Assists with snow removal during the winter months as business needs dictate.
- Monitors “junk” bins in Middleton and Verona and ensure they are kept clean.
- Communicates job progress to Warehouse Manager on a regular basis.
- Available to fill in when Warehouse Supervisor is not available to lead team.
- Adheres to company policies and procedures such as attendance, conduct and dress code.
- Communicates with and provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers in person, via phone, email and text message.
- Maintains compliance with company safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor/manager.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provides mentoring, coaching, constructive feedback to Drivers.
- Fosters a positive team-oriented work environment, resolving issues as they arise.
- Provides direction and delegation of tasks to Drivers.
- Approves time and ensures accuracy of hours for payroll.
- Oversees productivity staff including time and materials.
- Partners with Warehouse Supervisor, IC Manager and Human Resources on any employee issues.
Working Conditions
- Work is primarily performed indoors and outdoors during all seasons.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including inclement weather (rain, snow, heat or cold).
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection is required for duties such as equipment operation that expose the individual to elevated noise levels.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual will demonstrate and perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The ability to effectively communicate and interact, in a positive manner, with all Company personnel, regulatory agencies, customers, consultants and other contractor personnel is also required. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education, Certification and License:
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License with good driving record is required; a Class A or B commercial driver’s license (CDL) is a plus.
Experience:
- A minimum of 2-3 years of logistics, warehouse or Logistics Coordinator experience is preferred.
Specific Requirements:
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Working knowledge of Federal and State occupational safety and health regulations, with a strong knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations.
- Ability to prioritize work load and shift gears quickly in fast-paced environment, adapting to changing demands.
- Experience operating a Bobcat, loader, and or forklift
- Able to accurately and quickly read maps
- Knowledge of landscape material, equipment and fleet.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexible with scheduling in as hours vary based on business need; including snow removal.
Physical Requirements:
- Squats, stoops, or kneels and lifts objects from ground frequently.
- Full extension of arms above head and in front of body.
- Frequently lifts, carries and pushes/pulls weight of up to 50 pounds.
- Occasionally carries and pushes/pulls weights exceeding 50-100 pounds or more.
Job Specifications
- This is a Full-time Year Round position.
- Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 6:00am to 5:00pm (40-50 hours per week) during our peak season (approximately April to November). Saturday hours as needed.
- Hours vary in winter months (approximately December through March) based on snow removal.
