About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Back-up Shift supervisor, the Summer Relief - Maintenance Labourer’s primary function is to perform general maintenance laborer support as well as asphalt tank car loading at the Lloydminster Asphalt Refinery in Lloydminster, AB.

Work Environment:

  • Candidates must have the ability to work various hours (day shifts only). Work schedule to be determined.

  • Overtime as required based on business needs and schedules.

  • This position is based out of our Lloydminster Refinery facility and would require the successful candidate to reside/relocate to the area.

  • Successful candidate will be required to work in a wide variety of conditions due to the nature of the operation (working at heights, in confined spaces, with noise, in extreme weather. conditions, toxic environments, etc.).

  • This is a unionized role (UNIFOR).

What you’ll do:

  • Perform daily operations of loading asphalt products to tank cars

  • Participate in day-to-day maintenance activities

  • Operate heavy duty equipment (forklift, tractor, all-terrain vehicles, track mobile)

  • Perform general laborer and housekeeping duties within all areas of the Refinery

  • Ensure all work is performed in a safe, efficient manner in accordance with Cenovus’s policies and procedures

  • Participate in Health and Safety Programs and initiatives

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • Minimum Grade 12 education or GED equivalent

  • The following experience would be considered an asset: post-secondary/technical/trade program; candidates with minimum 4th class Power Engineering certification or partial completion of 4th class is preferred; related tank car loading experience; previous process operations or maintenance experience in an industrial setting; and/or safety training certifications such as TDG, Confined Space I/II, H2S Alive, etc

  • Basic understanding of safety and regulatory standards.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment

  • Strong trouble-shooting skills

As this position has been identified as safety critical, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.

For this position you will be required to maintain a Class 5 driver's license, a satisfactory driving record, and adhere to the appropriate Company policies and guidelines. A driver's abstract will be one of the background checks requested in the pre-employment screening for the final candidate.
