Job Overview:

Position Summary:

The Live Production Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for managing the production quality control procedures throughout all production farms. This position performs regulatory required tests, internal inspections and audits, and animal welfare observations during production events, documentation, and review of production records to ensure that our company and contract farms are meeting all regulatory requirements and animal welfare standards. This position also works with Farm Managers and farm staff in the event of a deviation or discrepancy. Additionally, while this position will have an office in Nashville, NC, the incumbent will regularly travel within approximately 175-mile radius to visit our farm operations. 

Key Duties & Responsibilities:  

  • Monitor and maintain Production FDA SE Program and AI Monitoring Program. This includes sample/swab collections, paperwork review, and recordkeeping
  • Perform animal welfare observations during flock events and communicate the findings with Supervisor accordingly
  • Carry out, manage, and document animal welfare incident reports and corrective action reports that provide quality insight to problem solving. Perform verification that corrective actions have been completed.
  • Work with the QA Manager to ensure all production processes and products follow regulation requirements, customer specifications, and 3rd party audit standards
  • Perform monthly farm inspection and monitoring checks, to include environmental monitoring
  • Inspect and calibrate monitoring equipment
  • Maintain accuracy in all records
  • Verify paperwork and processes related to SQF program, to include monthly internal audits
  • Assist with sampling to investigate egg quality issues
  • Assists in providing necessary organic information to certifying organization 
  • Helps drive all of BFF’s Environmental Management Systems (EMS) in an impactful manner to include monitoring/reducing operationally related negative effects on the environment as well as pollution prevention
  • Other duties may be assigned 

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma and 2 years of Animal Science education is preferred; Or at least 2 years’ experience in quality assurance or food safety in food manufacturing

Other Requirements:

  • Acceptable driving record that ensures insurability to drive company vehicles
  • Proficient in using computer and basic software such as Microsoft to create and maintain trend charts and SOP’s
  • Ability to use calculator, weight scales, thermometers, and processing equipment
  • Previous food industry and quality assurance experience 
  • Ability to work in agriculture environment with varying temperatures, odors, and environmental conditions
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English; Bilingual in Spanish is helpful
  • Ability to work with minimum to no supervision, act in liaison of the Supervisor, self-starter, and problem solver
  • Ability to lift/push up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in an agricultural environment with poultry
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, verbal, written, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Basic Technical Writing Skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic micro techniques (aseptic sampling, dilutions, plating).
  • Ability to read and interpret micro results.
  • SQF compliant

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme heat.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
