Job Overview:

Purpose

 

The Lean Process Engineer is a hands-on leader responsible for driving and implementing Lean initiatives that support the facility’s strategic goals. This role executes Lean manufacturing strategies to improve operations, streamline processes, and enhance profitability. Partnering with department managers and key stakeholders, the Lean Process Engineer identifies opportunities for improvement, implements sustainable changes, and fosters a culture of continuous improvement across the organization.

 

Essential Job Functions

 

  Build and sustain a Lean culture across the organization through coaching, employee engagement, and celebrating improvement results.

  Lead the implementation of Lean methodologies and tools, including:

 

  • Create current- and future-state value stream maps
  • PDCA / Problem Solving
  • Process improvements – investigate and analyze production methods to identify gaps
  • Conduct time studies
  • Lead Kaizen events
  • Implement 5S and eliminate the 8 wastes
  • Align continuous improvement (CI) efforts with safety initiatives
  • Conduct financial analyses to quantify pre- and post-improvement savings
  • Develop standard work instructions for existing and new processes
  • Establish inventory management systems based on Kanban, JIT, and other principles
  • Implement KPIs / OKRs to measure success

 

  Define and design fixtures to improve productivity (SMED).

  Lead by example—working side-by-side with stakeholders to redesign workflows, reconfigure workspaces, and execute improvement projects.

  Ensure product quality is maintained while achieving productivity gains.

  Manage assigned projects and meet deadlines.

  Maintain facility layouts and propose layout improvements.

  Recommend proper utilization and procurement of machinery, tools, and equipment.

  Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

 

Physical Demands:

  Perform stationary work approximately 50% of the time using a computer and office equipment.

 Move throughout office and production areas approximately 50% of the time to observe manufacturing processes, access equipment, communicate with colleagues, and support Lean initiatives and projects.

 

Education/Skills/Experience:

  Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering or a related engineering field

  min. 5 years of manufacturing experience, ideally in heavy equipment production

  Experience working with multi-layered BOMs and multiple process steps

  Experience creating Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings a plus

  Formal Lean / Six Sigma training required; certification preferred

  Proven record of implementing Lean tools and achieving measurable results

  Ability to lead and influence project teams, communicate effectively, and provide coaching

  Ability to work independently once given clear direction and goals

  Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Visio

  SAP R/3 experience preferred
